Job Description

Position Title

Bed Placement SpecialistLiberty Hospital

Career Interest:

Plan, coordinate, and manage patient bed assignments to ensure the patient is admitted to the most appropriate patient care unit in a timely manner from all points of entry (ED, PACU, direct admissions, transfers).  Facilitate communication among patient care units, ancillary departments and collaborate with physicians and staff to promote efficient and appropriate bed placement.  Function as a liaison with physician offices to take orders and facilitate direct admissions.  During periods of low patient activity, assist in the collection of performance improvement data from the medical record. Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

  • Serve as a resource to patient care units and physician offices regarding appropriate bed placement.
  • Prioritize bed placement, matching patient’s clinical needs with nursing skill set and unit competencies.
  • Solve problems effectively and make independent and timely decisions.
  • Seek information, anticipate needs and collaborate with the Nursing Office on staffing issues.
  • Utilize the tracking board for current patient and bed information.
  • Display considerable flexibility to assist with problem solving during unexpected situations.
  • Remain calm, caring and organized during stressful situations.
  • Collaborate with administration regarding bed availability during high census for potential diversion and monitor for readiness to reopen.
  • Search and retrieve the medical record to complete abstraction of performance improvement data as delegated.
  • Complete performance improvement reports and communicate significant findings.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience

  • 2 or more years clinical nursing experience.


Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor Degree Nursing
  • Nursing supervision/management experience.


Required Licensure and Certification

  • Licensed Registered Nurse (LRN) - Single State - State Board of Nursing with eligibility to work in the state of MO.


Preferred Licensure and Certification

  • Medical/Surgical (RNC)
  • Acute/Critical Care Nursing (Adult) (CCRN) - American Association of Critical-Care Nurses Certification Corporation (AACN)
  • Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) - Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN)
  • Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (CMSRN) - Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN)
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association (AHA)


Knowledge Requirements

  • Strong computer skills.
