Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a BD Manager to join our Marketing team on a 12-month fixed-term contract, based in A&O Shearman's Perth office.

Marketing team – Perth

Our Marketing team helps the firm win and grow the right clients and work. We drive client development across the firm by deepening priority relationships, increasing share of wallet and converting strategic opportunities into profitable revenue. We partner with our lawyers to deliver effective go-to-market strategies, strengthen client relationships and enhance the firm's market profile. Working as one global team, we combine local expertise with international reach to maximise impact across offices, practices, sectors and client programmes.

What you will do

Working alongside our US-based Mining & Metals BD Manager, you will support the delivery of business development activities across the global Mining & Metals sector. You will help translate strategy into action by driving client development initiatives, raising the sector's market profile, supporting priority pursuits and ensuring best practice across BD systems, processes and reporting.

Strategic planning and execution
  • Support delivery of the Mining & Metals sector strategy and business plan.
  • Coordinate key sector initiatives, meetings and client programmes.
  • Monitor market developments and identify opportunities to support growth
Client development
  • Support client planning and relationship development across priority accounts.
  • Coordinate client meetings, events and follow-up activities.
  • Maintain high-quality client intelligence and CRM data to support business growth.
AI and technology
  • Use approved AI and BD technology tools to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Continuously develop AI capabilities in line with firm requirements and best practice.
Pursuit excellence
  • Support strategic pitches, proposals and credentials aligned to sector priorities.
  • Maintain accurate pipeline and opportunity data and support pursuit best practice.
Market profile, content and campaigns
  • Deliver sector events, conferences and profile-raising initiatives.
  • Coordinate thought leadership, awards, directories and marketing campaigns.
  • Help strengthen the market profile of the Mining & Metals sector globally.
Collaboration, integration and change
  • Collaborate with colleagues across regions, practices and business teams to deliver sector objectives.
  • Promote effective use of firm systems, processes and ways of working.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and change initiatives.
Team leadership and development
  • Maintain clear activity plans, trackers and handover notes.
  • Share knowledge, best practice and operational improvements across the team.
  • Support effective prioritisation and delivery across competing demands.

What you will have
  • Proven business development experience within a professional services environment, ideally within a global or matrix organisation.
  • Strong commercial awareness and interest in the Mining & Metals sector, with the ability to translate market insight into action.
  • Excellent project management, stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Strong writing, presentation and relationship-building capabilities.
  • Experience using CRM and business development systems, ideally Dynamics, alongside research and reporting tools.
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines and maintain attention to detail.
  • A proactive, collaborative and client-focused approach, with confidence working alongside senior stakeholders.
  • Degree qualified or equivalent professional experience, with flexibility to travel when required.
