
We are seeking an experienced Senior Battery Technician to support Battery Center operations by performing advanced analysis, repair, remanufacturing, and assembly of high-voltage battery packs, modules, and components for the Americas market. This role is responsible for executing and improving battery repair processes across multiple battery pack variants and varying production volumes to meet market demand. The Senior Battery Technician serves as a subject-matter resource on complex repair cases and supports technical guidance within the production team. The position reports directly to the Circular Ops market leader and works operationally in alignment with the BC Operations Lead.
Technical Repair & Diagnostics
• Perform advanced fault tracing and analysis on incoming battery materials (packs, modules, and sub-components), including PHEV and BEV batteries from Volvo Cars and other defined OEMs.
• Execute complex battery repairs, refurbishments, and build-to-order pack construction in accordance with approved work instructions, methods, and VCSB manufacturing structures.
• Perform diagnostic, validation, and functional testing to ensure quality-assured deliveries to internal and external customers.
• Take ownership of complex, unique, or non-standard repair cases, serving as a technical escalation point within the Battery Center.
Process, Quality & Continuous Improvement
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve safety, efficiency, quality, and repair cycle time at both team and individual levels.
• Validate, review, and provide feedback on repair instructions, tooling, and process changes in collaboration with VCSB and global stakeholders.
• Document unique repairs, repeat failures, and trend issues, including technical reporting to support quality, engineering, and production teams.
• Actively support Lean manufacturing principles and maintain a strong 5S mindset within production operations.
• Demonstrates strict adherence to high-voltage safety procedures, PPE requirements, and all Battery Center safety standards.
Technical Leadership & Collaboration
• Provide informal technical guidance and mentoring to journeyman and standard-level technicians, as directed by the Production Lead.
• Support flying technician activities, including tooling ownership, execution support, and reporting for assigned cases.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with CMQ, R&D, and other Volvo Cars organizations to support root cause analysis and resolution.
o Bachelor’s degree in engineering, electrical engineering (or related field/training) or 3-6+ years proven equivalent work experience.
o 3+ years of experience in an Electrical role or position – Electrician, Electrical Engineer, Battery Technology, High Voltage Technician or related roles.
o General knowledge of electric vehicles and an ability to interact with our technical team regarding repair methods and tools. Knowledge of National Electric Code, state and local requirements.
o Must be willing to travel domestically and internationally. Potential international travel for training purposes. (Approximately 5%).
Salary Range:
• $73,347 to $126,217
Compensation is determined based on experience, qualifications, internal equity, location and company guidelines
