Job Description

Basketball was invented by the YMCA more than 130 years ago, and today it remains one of the world's most popular sports. At the Y NSW, our basketball programs help young people build confidence, skills, resilience and connection through sport in a welcoming and inclusive environment.

We're looking for an Operations Coordinator to help drive the day-to-day success of the Y NSW's growing Junior Basketball Academy (JBA). About the Role

As the Operations Coordinator, you'll be the engine room behind the Junior Basketball Academy, ensuring programs are staffed, equipped and ready to deliver exceptional participant experiences every day.

You'll coordinate coaches, venues, equipment, communications and logistics while supporting operational planning across school programs, clinics, camps and basketball development initiatives.

đź“… Program Operations & Delivery

  • Coordinate schedules across schools, venues and basketball programs
  • Ensure programs are fully staffed and operationally ready
  • Monitor operational milestones and deadlines
  • Help minimise disruptions and quickly resolve issues that arise
  • Maintain accurate participation and attendance records

👥 Workforce Planning & Coach Support

  • Build and maintain coach rosters
  • Match coach capability and availability to program requirements
  • Support coach recruitment, onboarding and deployment
  • Provide mentoring, guidance and day-to-day operational support to coaches
  • Coordinate coach development and feedback activities

🏟 Venue & Logistics Coordination

  • Manage venue bookings, school access and site requirements
  • Coordinate equipment, inventory and operational resources
  • Support new program launches and school partnerships
  • Ensure basketball equipment is safe, available and ready for use

📢 Customer & Stakeholder Support

  • Maintain positive relationships with families, schools, coaches and venue partners
  • Respond to operational enquiries professionally and promptly
  • Collect feedback and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Provide regular operational reporting and updates

âś… Compliance & Safeguarding

  • Monitor Working With Children Checks, qualifications and onboarding requirements
  • Support incident reporting, risk management and WHS processes
  • Maintain operational records and audit-ready documentation
  • Champion child safety and safeguarding practices across all programs

🏀 On-Court Leadership

  • Deliver coaching during peak periods, staff shortages and special programs
  • Support coaches through mentoring and quality assurance visits
  • Help maintain consistent, engaging and age-appropriate program delivery

About You

You're an organised operator who enjoys bringing people, systems and logistics together to create outstanding outcomes.

You'll Bring:

  • Strong organisation, scheduling and coordination skills
  • Experience managing multiple priorities across different locations
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset
  • Strong attention to detail and administrative discipline
  • Confidence using rostering, spreadsheet and operational systems
  • A commitment to child safety, inclusion and service excellence

Essential Experience

  • Experience in sport operations, workforce coordination, venue management or a similar multi-site environment
  • Experience coordinating rosters and casual workforces
  • Experience supporting or delivering youth sport or recreation programs
  • NSW Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain)
  • First Aid and CPR qualifications (or willingness to obtain)
  • Driver's license and vehicle

Highly Regarded

  • Basketball coaching experience and accreditation
  • Experience working with schools or community organisations
  • Qualifications in sports management, recreation, education or business

The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) has been providing outstanding care for Victoria's children and their families for over 147 years.

We are the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and our care extends to children from Tasmania, southern New South Wales and other states around Australia and overseas.

With a passionate, highly skilled and committed staff campus wide of over 5,000, we provide a full range of clinical services, tertiary care and health promotion and prevention programs for children and young people.

We are the designated state-wide major trauma centre for paediatrics in Victoria and a Nationally Funded Centre for cardiac and liver transplantation.

When it comes to training and research we partner with the very best. Our campus partners, the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute (MCRI) and The University of Melbourne Department of Paediatrics, along with the RCH Foundation, are on site with the hospital in Parkville.
