Job Location Evansville, IN 47708 Salary Range $10.50

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The youth basketball coach at the Toyota Indiana YMCA provides instruction and encouragement, supervising activities related to athletic development and basketball training in correct techniques, dribbling, shooting, and other skills, as well as day-to-day interaction with parents for children aged 3-7 from various backgrounds and abilities, by following the Basketball Coordinator’s lead. The youth basketball coach at the Toyota Indiana YMCA serves others by intentionally welcoming, connecting with, and supporting them, and inviting them to get involved and give back to the community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Adhere to policies related to boundaries with youth and procedures associated with managing high-risk activities and supervising youth.
  2. Complete required abuse risk management training.
  3. Adhere to the procedures associated with managing high-risk activities and supervising youth.
  4. Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations. Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
  5. Teach basketball through a skill-based approach with effectively planned practices at a level appropriate for each team member.
  6. Welcome each child and their parents at the start of each class. The Y for youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
  7. Be aware that each child’s physical and emotional maturity, personality, background, and motivation differ.
  8. Supervise the players before, during, and after classes.
  9. Provide a safe and enjoyable environment for all players, giving each child an equal opportunity to participate.
  10. Communicate with other staff to promote proper sport-specific techniques.
  11. Communicate with the Basketball Coordinator or the Sports Director with any questions or concerns.
  12. To serve as a positive role model to the players, parents, and fellow coaches by following all rules, demonstrating good sportsmanship, and coaching consistency with the Y.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • The physical demands described here represent those that a sports coach must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform basic functions.
  • Ability to lead sports practices.
  • Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position, including leading sports practices, walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting.



Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CPR/AED, First Aid, Oxygen, and Bloodborne Pathogen training is required within 60 days of employment.
  • Child Abuse Prevention training is required before/on the first work day.
