Position: Bartender
Department: Food and Beverage
Provides beverage service to guests in an efficient, courteous, and professional manner displaying a high standard of guest service.
Duties and Responsibilities (specific areas of responsibility include but are not limited to):
- Offers warm and sincere welcome/farewell to guests using a guest’s name, when possible, and making good eye contact.
- Communicates with guests using clear and enthusiastic words, tone, and body language at all times.
- Makes guests feel appreciated through actions; offers assistance before it is requested.
- Anticipates guests’ needs by being alert to signals such as their raising a hand; acknowledges guests so they know the signal was observed.
- Mixes, garnishes, and serves alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks for guests following standard recipes.
- Rings drink orders into point-of-sale system immediately, collecting money for drinks served, and making change.
- Works with others to keep all areas cleaned and stocked in accord with departmental standards at all times.
- Performs opening and closing inventories of spirits.
- Teams with others to maintain an effective atmosphere and an efficient beverage service.
- Teams with others to maintain an attractive bar display in accord with departmental standards.
- Ensures cleanliness of the bar area and glassware.
- Complies with State alcohol server requirements.
- Follows established safety and security policies and procedures including reporting accidents, injuries, and unsafe working conditions immediately to a supervisor.
- Ensures uniform and personal appearance is clean and professional.
- Resolves guest complaints in a diplomatic and level headed manner quickly, professionally, and effectively.
- Requests supervisor assistance when needed for an uncooperative guest or when unable to fulfill a request.
- Demonstrates positive, interpersonal skills with guests and team members.
- Functions as a supportive team member during shifts.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Essential functions of the position:
- Must be able to lift, carry, and transport materials and/or equipment frequently up to 20 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Must be able to sit, walk, or stand for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to reach high areas, stoop, pull, push, kneel, squat, twist, grip, and bend for duties.
- Must be able to work at and travel to all CDS properties.
- Must be able to follow both verbal and written directions.
- Must be able to read, write, and effectively communicate with all guests and team members positively and professionally.
- Must be able to work in environments with high noise levels, flashing lights, smoking areas, and large crowds.
- Must be able to work in a high-pressure/fast-paced environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of beer, wine, and spirits as well as standard drink recipes.
- Knowledge of applicable health standards and workplace safety procedures.
- Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations as well as Casino Del Sol internal controls, policies, and procedures.
- Proficiency with point-of-sale systems.
- Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills.
- Strong communication skills.
- Skill in working courteously with the public as well as developing and maintaining strong working relationships.
- Basic reading skills.
- Ability to operate all equipment used at the bars, such as blenders and cash terminals.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment with minimal supervision.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment.
- Ability to cheerfully handle stress in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to effectively multitask.
- Ability to perform mathematical computations pertaining to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Certification from an accredited or state licensed bartending school OR two (2) year bartending experience OR two (2) years bar back experience, including a combination of one (1) year guest service and money handling experience
- Computer proficiency with point-of-sale systems.
- Must either possess or obtain valid Food Handler’s and Alcohol Awareness cards within three (3) months of employment.
- Must be able to work any shift, weekends, holidays, and special events, as needed.
- Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screening in accordance with company policy.
- Must have employment eligibility in the U.S.
- Must be able to obtain, and retain a valid gaming license/background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
- One (1) year high volume bar experience.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish).
