Barrier Operative

  • Location: STW Leicester Depot, Anstey Lane, Leicester LE7 7GU
  • Hours: 50 hours per week
  • Shift Pattern: Monday to Friday, 7:00am - 5:00pm. One week in every four will be worked on a back shift pattern of 10:00am - 8:00pm, with weekend working required during this rotation.
  • Salary: £29,000 - £31,000 per annum

Due to continued growth, we are looking to recruit a Barrier Operative to support our Clean Water Contract based out of our Leicester depot.

About the Role

Working from a company-provided 3.5 tonne vehicle, you will be responsible for the delivery, collection and maintenance of traffic management and site safety equipment across the Leicester region and surrounding areas.

This is a hands-on role where you'll play an important part in ensuring worksites are safe, compliant and fully equipped for operational teams carrying out clean water works.

Your primary duties will include laying, maintaining and removing barriers, signs, cones and guarding from highway excavations, as well as delivering reinstatement materials such as sections and lids to operational sites.

You will also be responsible for ensuring worksites are left in a clean, safe and tidy condition following completion of works.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver and collect barriers, signs, cones, lamps and other Chapter 8 traffic management equipment.
  • Set up and remove signing, lighting and guarding on work sites.
  • Deliver sections, lids and other materials to operational teams.
  • Ensure all sites are left clean, tidy and safe upon completion of works.
  • Operate company-issued mobile devices and tablets to receive, manage and complete work instructions.
  • Upload photographs and complete site records using company systems and apps.
  • Carry out daily vehicle inspections and maintain vehicle cleanliness and roadworthiness.
  • Assist members of the public by directing them safely around work areas when required.
  • Follow all health, safety, environmental and quality procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with supervisors and operational teams to support delivery of the contract.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • Comfortable using mobile phones, tablets and work management applications.
  • Physically fit and capable of carrying out manual handling activities, including lifting and moving barriers and equipment.
  • Strong commitment to health and safety.
  • Reliable with excellent timekeeping and flexibility.
  • NRSWA Street Works qualification.
  • Signing, Lighting and Guarding (SLG) accreditation.
  • Knowledge of Chapter 8 Traffic Management requirements.
  • Previous experience within utilities, highways, traffic management or reinstatement operations.
