Position Overview:
The Barn Assistant supports the daily care, feeding, and maintenance of animals and barn facilities to ensure a safe, clean, and healthy farm environment. This hands-on role is essential to the smooth operation of the farm and requires reliability, physical stamina, and a strong respect for animal welfare and safety standards.
Responsibilities:
• Provide daily care for livestock, which may include feeding, watering, grooming, and monitoring animal health and behavior
• Clean and maintain barns, stalls, pens, and surrounding areas, including mucking stalls and disposing of waste properly
• Assist with animal handling, movement, and basic husbandry tasks as directed
• Support routine farm operations such as bedding changes, fence checks, and equipment cleaning
• Observe animals for signs of illness or injury and report concerns promptly to farm management
• Follow established biosecurity, safety, and animal-care protocols at all times
• Assist with seasonal farm activities such as births, weaning, or increased workload during peak periods
• Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment
• Perform other duties as assigned by leadership
Experience:
• Preferred: Two (2) + years of experience handling horses, Farm, barn or animal care experience
• Preferred: Experience working with animals of various sizes and temperaments
Schedule:
• 6 day work week; weekends required
• Hours vary based on workload
• Flexibility required
Compensation:
• $20.00 per hour
Environment:
• Vary temperatures based on outdoor working environment/conditions
Skills:
• Physical abilities: Ability to lift up to 50lbs; Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time through shift; Walking on a variety of surfaces
• Strong communication Skills: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with peers and leaders on a daily basis
• Organizational Skills: Ability to fulfill executive directions in a timely manner; ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
