Job Description

POSITION: Barista

DEPARTMENT: Food & Beverage

REPORTS TO: F&B Supervisor

FLSA STATUS: Hourly/Non-Exempt Part-Time

PAY RATE: $19.20

SMG, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities, has an excellent opening for Barista at Franklins Café. Located near the historic Greek Theatre inside of Griffith Park, Franklin’s is an intimate café that serves made to order coffee and espresso beverages as well as a variety of fresh food fare, located adjacent to the Roosevelt Golf Course. A small but energetic staff of baristas and cooks work together to serve not only local Los Feliz community members, but countless guests of Griffith Park from around the world. Franklin’s is a pet friendly and customer engaging environment that is in search of enthusiastic staff. Responsible for payment handling, customer contact, and expediting orders; while providing fast, efficient, and friendly service always. Engagement with guests through smiles and greetings, offering product information, providing sale suggestions, and always giving a genuine thank you. The customer experience can lead to tips for our staff, any received should be reported as income.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Including the following, and other duties may also be assigned:

  • Follows the branded concepts/SMG operational policies and procedures, including payment handling, safety, and security, in order to ensure the safety of all employees during each shift.
  • Responsible for preparing and serving coffee and other beverages to customers.
  • Accurately processes cash register transactions, inputting product costs, processes debit and credit cards, as well as ensure a clean and organized workspace so that fellow employees may locate resources and product as needed.
  • Always maintains the security of payments and adheres to PREMIER payment handling policy.
  • Adhere to the monitoring of product pricing, signage and placement and the use of product shelf tag.
  • Knowledgeable of all equipment and function required to make a successful product.
  • Provide quality beverages and food products consistently for all customers by adhering to all recipe and presentation standards.
  • Keep food and beverage shelves stocked.
  • Keep café clean by wiping down tables, shelves, counters, glass, and any other surface that needs cleaning.
  • Represent SMG as a customer service agent by providing quality, skilled guest service, and ensuring the prompt and immediate check out of our guest.
  • Assists with new employees training by positively reinforcing successful performance and giving respectful and encouraging feedback to lead to success.
  • Notify Supervisors/Managers regarding guest's complaints and concerns.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor or manager.

Education and/or Experience

  • Must have a High School Diploma/GED.
  • Must have sufficient math ability to accurately add, subtract, divide, multiply and perform other basic business math calculations and pass basic math skills test.
  • Must speak, be able to read and understand English well enough to converse with customers, supervisors, and employees.
  • Understand written and oral direction and communicate effectively with others.

Skills and Abilities

  • Must possess good organizational skills.
  • Must have ability to follow directions and effectively perform the work.
  • Ability to work closely with others.
  • Must have a pleasant personality and adhere to uniform standards policy.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to work various shifts and hours to include holidays and weekends.
  • Attention to detail.

Computer Skills

This position requires ability to operate POS systems as assigned.

Other Qualifications

  • Must have current ServeSafe certification.
  • Must have RBS training through Alcohol Beverage Control.
  • Negative TB test.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
