The Bar Supervisor is responsible for consistently delivering results that contribute to the mission and overall success of the hotel by accomplishing performance objectives covering the social venues of the hotel. The bar supervisor leads the bar team through service to maintain high standards throughout, manages product offering menu for excellence and consistency and leads the cocktail program ensuring consistency in execution as well as a diverse and seasonally changing menu.

Key Job Functions

  • Follow service guidelines according to the Brand standards in the Service Manual
  • Responsible for the creation of specialty beverage items and craft cocktails
  • Maintains a consistent selection of all spirits and ensures a balance in price point, flavor profile as well as often called for selections are available and listed on the menu
  • Creates a seasonally changing menu of a wide variety of house created cocktails at least 4 times annually.
  • Ensures bar program is always stocked with all ingredients and tools are readily available, if not, working with management to rectify any imbalances.
  • Manages the bar team through service, correcting issues in the moment and communicating any issues necessary to FOH or BOH management
  • Helps work with brands and events for our bar program and in maintaining the identity of the program and keeping in line with Sonesta and R’evolution standards
  • Assists with any guest issues on the floor in the bar area during service
  • Works with the bar team through service as a bartender and follows bartender guidelines as well:
  • Presents menu, answers questions, and makes suggestions regarding food and service.
  • Makes recommendations of food and beverage items according to guest preferences.
  • Writes order on check or memorizes it and enters into MICROS POS system.
  • Relays order to kitchen and serves courses from kitchen and service bars.
  • Observes diners to respond to any additional requests and to determine when meal has been completed.
  • Follows proper check out procedures and proper cash handling procedures as outlines in the training material
  • Must keep service area and tools clean and organized.
  • Responsible for returning all items to their zoned location
  • Attends all ongoing training sessions.
  • Must follow and help enforce all prescribed systems of organization and cleanliness
  • Must complete all before, during and after shift paperwork
  • Responsible for following all opening and closing checklists and sidework
  • Must follow all daily and weekly cleaning schedules

Qualifications and Skills

A candidate for this position must possess the following applicable knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to demonstrate and provide applicable examples to support his/her competency.

  • Track record of delivering exceptional guest or client experience
  • Communication skills are utilized a significant amount of time for training and safety purposes, and when interacting with guests and associates.
  • People management skills to lead a small team and navigate any social issues within and assist in resolving any professional issues should they occur
  • Guest engagement and conflict resolution skills to react to any potential issues in the moment and resolve the guest satisfaction
  • Understanding of cocktail creation, classic cocktails as well as new innovations occurring within the cocktail world to keep the program modern and balanced with homage to New Orleans history.
  • Understanding of menu maintenance and creation
  • Understanding of spirits, production and ability to train the team regarding their qualities and specifics
  • Ability to make sound decisions
  • Ability to work independently and handle stressful situations dealing with employees in a production environment
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Must be able to work independently and/or with a group to accomplish the goal/s at hand. A positive attitude is strongly desired
  • Valid Louisiana Responsible Vendor Server's Permit required
  • Valid ServSafe Food Handler Certificate required

Education and/or Experience

At least 2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Significant experience working in high level cocktail production, high end dining and high volume bars.
