Job Description

MCB’s Strategy, Research and Development division (SRD SBU) offers perspective to senior leaders about the future of MCB and provides recommendations around the choices that we need to make as a Group, given our value proposition, resources and industry positioning.
As a Banking and Financial Analyst, you will conduct cutting-edge research and analysis on market, industry, and regulatory trends to support informed decision-making whilst also promoting MCB’s brand image and goodwill.

We are on the lookout for:

Job vacancy: Banking and Financial Analyst

In this role you will,

  • Continuously monitor and analyse the evolving local, regional, and international banking and financial landscape, delivering timely and accurate research to support decision-makers;
  • Uncover and/or assess, under the guidance of the ‘Senior Banking and Financial Analyst’, market, industry, regulatory challenges and opportunities affecting MCB’s strategic positioning, escalating key issues and recommending potential actions;
  • Support MCB’s investment-grade rating by preparing targeted reports and topical papers that clearly demonstrate the Group’s strong financial health and operational outlook to international rating agencies;
  • Assist in the preparation of insightful reports and presentations on market, industry and regulatory topics in support of informed decision-making by business lines and management;
  • Construct and maintain effective networking relationships and communication channels with relevant stakeholders in order to facilitate robust research and analysis exercises;
  • Develop and update financial and forecasting models to assess the impact of operational changes on MCB’s key performance indicators and strategies, empowering stakeholders to make informed decisions;
  • Provide timely and accurate inputs for the execution of due diligence-type exercises being undertaken by regulatory bodies and other external parties with a view to ensuring that important information requests on MCB are being effectively attended to towards fostering the benefit of the organization;
  • Maintain a comprehensive, up-to-date understanding of the market, regulatory, industry, and competitive environments in which MCB operates to underpin relevant and timely analyses.

To succeed, you will be required to demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Analyse numerical data and other pertinent sources of information and make rational judgements from the available information and analysis;
  • Write in a well-structured and logical way to meet the needs and understanding of the intended audience, responding quickly to the needs of the latter and to their reactions and feedback;
  • Apply specialist and detailed technical expertise and demonstrate an understanding of different market, industry, regulatory and competitive environments in which MCB operates;
  • Focus on internal, external customer needs (including regulatory, awarding bodies) and satisfaction, setting high standards for quality and quantity and consistently achieve S/BU goals;
  • Adapt to changing circumstances, accept new ideas and change initiatives whilst demonstrating an immediate understanding of newly presented information, incorporating same in analyses to support decision-making.

We are looking for candidates who have a:

EITHER

  • Degree with a strong academic record in Banking/ Finance/ Economics/ Statistics/ Business Administration or any business-related field;
  • Minimum of 3 years’ working experience in the banking or financial sector, inclusive of:
    - experience in conducting research assignments and producing quantitative, financial / banking analyses;
    - experience in writing and producing reports.

    OR
  • Diploma with a strong academic record in Banking/ Finance/ Economics/ Statistics/ Business Administration or any business-related field;
  • Minimum of 6 years' working experience in the banking or financial sector, inclusive of:
    - experience in conducting research assignments and producing quantitative, financial / banking analyses;
    - experience in writing and producing reports.

A combination of both qualification & experience will be considered.

You will also be required to demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of financial and banking markets, dynamics, regulatory frameworks and requirements, locally, regionally and internationally;
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel and Powerpoint);
  • Familiarity with financial modelling, forecasting techniques, benchmarking and analytical tools;
  • Working knowledge of data analytics and automation tools (e.g. Python) to streamline research workflows and enhance analytical efficiency (considered a strong advantage);
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and communication skills; and
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced deadline driven environment.
