We are recruiting on behalf of a leading private specialist eye care provider for an experienced Bank Optometrist based in Guildford GU2 and paying up to £50 per hour rate dependent on experience.

This is a great opportunity for a GOC-registered optometrist who is looking for flexible bank work within a modern, specialist ophthalmology setting. You will work as part of a skilled multidisciplinary team, supporting patients across cataract, refractive, glaucoma and medical retina pathways.

The role would suit an optometrist with experience in a hospital, refractive or high street environment who is confident delivering excellent patient care and keen to develop within specialist eye care.

Job Purpose

As part of the clinical team, you will support the day-to-day running of the clinic, carrying out pre-operative and post-operative consultations and assessing patients’ suitability for treatment.

Depending on the needs of the site, you may support NHS cataract assessments, private refractive surgery assessments, YAG consultations, medical retina pathways, glaucoma pathways and other ophthalmology services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out pre-operative and post-operative assessments for cataract, refractive and other ophthalmology pathways

  • Support patient consultations, examinations and follow-up appointments

  • Document clinical findings accurately using electronic medical record systems

  • Provide first-line clinical advice to patients and refer to a medical practitioner where required

  • Work closely with consultants, doctors, nurses and wider clinical colleagues

  • Support patient flow and appointment management within a busy clinical environment

  • Follow clinical governance, CQC, infection prevention and safety procedures

  • Participate in clinical audits, mandatory training and CPD as required

  • Support out-of-hours or on-call cover where required by the service

  • Travel to other clinical sites for training, meetings or occasional cover where needed

What We’re Looking For

  • Current GOC registration as a fully qualified optometrist

  • Able to cover 2 or more shifts during the clinic hours Monday to Friday

  • Ideally at least 2 years’ continuous GOC registration

  • Experience working as an optometrist in a hospital, refractive or clinical setting

  • Previous hospital or refractive experience would be an advantage, but full training may be provided

  • IP qualification would be desirable but is not essential

  • Experience using patient administration systems or electronic medical records

  • Good IT skills and excellent time management

  • Strong communication skills and a patient-focused approach

  • Ability to work well as part of a multi-disciplinary team

  • Flexibility to work bank shifts when required

  • Commercial awareness and confidence working with service KPIs

  • Experience in cataract, refractive, glaucoma or medical retina pathways

This is an excellent opportunity to join a specialist private eye care environment and further develop your clinical experience across a range of ophthalmology pathways.
