Job Description

Bakery Associate · Part-Time Opportunities · Dierbergs Markets

Bakery Associates assistcustomers with their bakery purchases, stock the bakery cases, and ensure that each customer receives a “sweet” experience. They have a creative side and can work independently with a variety of responsibilities

  • Stock, package, order product as well as food handling
  • Take customer special orders over the phone and in person
  • Learn about bakery products and being able to communicate your knowledge
  • Write on decorated cakes
  • Make sure our display cases are well-stocked and look showroom-worthy
  • Use equipment such as label machine, bread slicer (must be at least 18 years old), and dishwasher, make sure to provide general upkeep ( change tapes and ribbons, etc.)
  • Package products in appropriate containers
  • Count, sticker, and put away supplies as needed
  • Follow safe food handling guidelines whenever preparing food, according to S.A.F.E. program standards
  • Keep work area sanitary by using company approved cleaners and equipment

Essentials

  • At least 16 years of age
  • Basic math and computer skills
  • Read basic information (ex: company policies, procedures, and cake orders)
  • Good penmanship and steady hands
  • Willingness to take on more responsibility as needed
  • Work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work in varied temperature-controlled environments (refrigerator and freezer)
  • Ability to follow safety and food-handling guidelines to keep the work area safe and clean
  • Flexibility to work a varied schedule that includes weekends and holidays
  • Prompt and regular attendance based on your schedule
  • Adherence to our dress code, appearance, and personal hygiene standards
  • Associates in food handling departments are required to receive a Hepatitis A vaccination (MO only)

Physical Requirements

  • Lifting & Carrying - Up to 35 lbsoccasionally
  • Pushing & Pulling- Up to 15 lbsforce occasionally
  • Occasional work actions - sit, kneel, stoop, squat, climb, overhead reach and power grip
  • Frequent work actions - stand, walk, head turn, handling, side reach and pinch
  • Constant work actions - forward reach, grasp, finger manipulation and feel

Originating in 1854 with its first location on Olive Street Road, it has grown to 27 stores primarily in the St. Louis region, with two stores in Illinois, and one in the Ozarks. In addition, there are two facilities; a Central Kitchen and Produce Row warehouse which supports the store operations.
