At Stew Leonard’s, our bakery is part production floor, part showplace, and part neighborhood tradition. As Bakery Assistant Manager, you will work alongside the Bakery Manager to lead a high-volume department generating approximately $2.5–$7 million in annual sales. You will coach a talented team, keep production and merchandising on plan, and make sure every display is fresh, full, and ready to wow our customers.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who knows bakery operations and enjoys developing people. You will spend time both leading the business and working alongside the team when it matters most.
What you’ll do
• Lead daily bakery operations and help the team deliver strong sales, quality, freshness, service, and profit results.
• Execute production plans across breads, bagels, donuts, cakes, and other bakery categories; adjust priorities as business needs change.
• Keep displays full, properly signed, rotated, and cross-merchandised to create an exciting customer experience.
• Review sales and operating reports, identify opportunities, support inventories, and place vendor orders and transfers.
• Hire, train, schedule, coach, and recognize team members; provide clear expectations and timely performance feedback.
• Maintain accurate schedules and timecards and help control labor while meeting customer and production needs.
• Uphold food-safety, sanitation, workplace-safety, and employment standards every day.
• Step in for the Bakery Manager and confidently lead the department when needed.
What you bring
• At least 3 years of bakery, grocery, food-production, or closely related experience; prior lead or supervisory experience strongly preferred.
• Working knowledge of multiple bakery areas, such as breads, bagels, donuts, cakes, decorating, or production planning.
• A track record of setting expectations, delegating clearly, training others, and following through.
• Strong organization, communication, customer-service, and problem-solving skills.
• Comfort using Microsoft Office and learning scheduling, ordering, transfer, and item-maintenance systems.
• Ability to safely operate bakery ovens, mixers, and related production equipment.
• Availability to work a flexible retail schedule that may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• High school diploma or equivalent and age 18 or older.

• Medical, dental, and vision coverage; 401(k); family and personal time; life insurance; and additional benefits based on eligibility.
• Dayforce Wallet, giving eligible team members access to earned pay before payday at no cost.
• A one-of-a-kind work environment where fresh food, memorable customer experiences, and fun are part of the job.
