Job Description

The Background Verification Specialist is responsible for managing end-to-end pre-employment screening and background verification activities for candidates across the UK, Europe, and Rest of World (ROW) geographies. The incumbent will ensure timely completion of background checks, regulatory compliance, stakeholder management, vendor governance, and resolution of verification discrepancies while maintaining excellent candidate experience.

The role requires close collaboration with Talent Acquisition, HR Operations, Compliance, Legal, Hiring Managers, and external screening vendors to ensure all hires meet organizational and client-specific onboarding requirements.

Key Responsibilities Background Verification Operations
  • Manage end-to-end background verification process for hires across UK, Europe, Middle East, APAC, LATAM, and other ROW countries.
  • Initiate and track verification requests through screening vendors and internal systems.
  • Review completed background reports for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
  • Analyze discrepancies and coordinate adjudication activities.
  • Ensure closure of all cases within defined SLAs before onboarding.
Verification Management

Coordinate and validate:

  • Identity Verification
  • Right to Work Checks
  • Employment Verification
  • Education Verification
  • Criminal Record Checks
  • Address Verification
  • Professional License Verification
  • Credit Checks (where legally permissible)
  • Reference Checks
  • Global Sanctions & Watchlist Screening
Candidate & Stakeholder Management
  • Act as primary point of contact for candidates regarding BGV documentation and status updates.
  • Partner with recruiters, HR business partners, hiring managers, and onboarding teams to ensure timely completion.
  • Provide advisory support on country-specific screening requirements.
  • Resolve escalation cases and verification challenges.
Vendor Management
  • Coordinate with global background screening vendors.
  • Monitor vendor performance against SLAs.
  • Conduct regular governance reviews and audit checks.
  • Escalate delays and quality issues to vendor management teams.
Compliance & Risk Management
  • Ensure compliance with:
    • UK GDPR
    • EU GDPR
    • Local Labor Laws
    • Data Privacy Regulations
    • Client-specific compliance requirements
  • Manage high-risk cases and screening exceptions.
  • Support internal and external audits.
Reporting & Analytics
  • Prepare weekly and monthly BGV dashboards.
  • Track:
    • Verification volumes
    • SLA adherence
    • Aging cases
    • Vendor performance
    • Discrepancy trends
    • Compliance metrics
  • Identify process improvement opportunities.
Process Excellence
  • Drive automation and standardization initiatives.
  • Maintain SOPs, process documentation, and knowledge repositories.
  • Participate in system enhancement and digital transformation projects.

Bachelor's /Master Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration

Experience

  • 5–7years of experience in Background Verification, HR Operations, Talent Acquisition Operations, or Shared Services.
  • Experience handling UK, European, and global BGV processes.
  • Exposure to multiple screening vendors and global onboarding processes.

Technical Knowledge

  • Knowledge of:
    • UK GDPR
    • EU GDPR
    • Data Protection Regulations
    • Global Employment Screening Practices
  • Experience with HRMS/ATS systems such as:
    • Oracle Fusion
    • Workday
    • SuccessFactors
    • ServiceNow
  • Strong proficiency in MS Excel, Power BI, and reporting tools.
