As we continue to evolve our global product, Corporater India is building a strong Product Engineering organization focused on scalable, high-quality product development and customer outcomes.

About the Role

We are looking for a Backend Software Engineer to join the team building Notifications (Pigeon), a shared platform service used by multiple Corporater products.

You will work on a modern, standalone service where reliability, scalability, integrations, and consistency are critical. This is a hands-on product engineering role where you will contribute to solution design, architecture, technical decisions, and product discovery—not just implementation.

What You Will Do

• Build and evolve the Notifications platform and its shared capabilities.
• Develop backend services supporting notification definitions, templates, profiles, and communication workflows.
• Build reliable integrations with external mail providers, including SMTP, Mailjet, and comparable services.
• Handle provider-specific behavior, failures, retries, and delivery-status tracking.
• Work with event-store architecture, including append-only storage, projections, and replay.
• Design solutions that correctly handle ordering, idempotency, and rebuilding state from event history.
• Develop REST APIs, business logic, persistence, and integrations using Java and Spring Boot.
• Apply Hexagonal Architecture / Ports & Adapters to maintain clean domain boundaries.
• Write automated unit and integration tests using JUnit 5, Testcontainers, and related practices.
• Participate in architecture and code reviews and contribute to engineering standards.
• Work closely with Product Managers, frontend engineers, QA, architects, and teams consuming the shared service.
• Participate in discovery, evaluate alternatives, and bring technical trade-offs and practical solutions to the discussion.
• Take ownership of service reliability and customer impact.

What We Are Looking For

Must Have

• Strong hands-on Java and Spring Boot experience.
• Experience building and operating production backend services.
• Strong understanding of REST APIs, transactions, persistence, and databases.
• Experience with JPA/Hibernate and/or jOOQ.
• Practical experience with Hexagonal Architecture / Ports & Adapters.
• Experience integrating backend services with external systems/APIs.
• Strong understanding of retries, failure handling, idempotency, and reliable integrations.
• Strong testing discipline with JUnit 5 and integration testing.

Nice to Have

• Experience with event stores, event-driven systems, or event sourcing.
• Experience with SMTP, Mailjet, or other transactional email providers.
• Experience handling high-volume notification or fan-out scenarios.
• RabbitMQ or other messaging-platform experience.
• Testcontainers experience.
• OpenTelemetry or similar observability experience.
• Experience building shared platform services for multiple products.
