Job Description

We are looking for a strong Backend / Platform & Security Engineer to design and build secure, scalable backend services for enterprise Agentic AI and AI Copilot applications.

This is a combined role covering backend API development, workflow orchestration, gateway configuration, secure integration boundaries, session and state handling, observability, and enterprise identity integration.

The candidate should be capable of supporting multiple AI use cases across the organization, including AI assistants, workflow automation, tool execution, enterprise search, analytics, and agentic orchestration.

Strong preference will be given to candidates with Microsoft Azure, Microsoft AI, and enterprise platform experience.

Key Responsibilities
Backend Engineering & API Development
Design and develop scalable backend services and APIs for enterprise AI applications.

• Build analytics-oriented read models, service layers, and integration APIs.
• Develop APIs for user sessions, conversations, document retrieval, workflow execution, reporting, audit logs, and AI interactions.
• Ensure APIs are secure, performant, observable, and maintainable.
• Design backend services that support multiple agentic AI use cases across departments and business functions.

Agentic Workflow Orchestration

• Design and implement workflow orchestration for intent routing, tool selection, tool execution, approval workflows, and human-in-the-loop processes.
• Work with orchestration platforms such as N8N, Microsoft Copilot Studio, Semantic Kernel, or similar frameworks.
• Implement session state, conversation context, memory handling, execution tracing, and workflow history.
• Support multi-agent and multi-tool execution patterns with proper governance and control.
• Ensure orchestration workflows are secure, auditable, and enterprise-ready.
• API Gateway, Security & Integration Boundaries
  Configure and manage API gateways for authentication, authorization, throttling, rate limiting, request validation, logging, and monitoring.
• Implement secure integration patterns between AI applications, enterprise systems, databases, document repositories, and external APIs.
• Enforce clear boundaries between frontend, backend, orchestration layer, AI services, and enterprise data sources.
• Support token-based authentication, managed identities, API keys, OAuth2, SSO, and enterprise identity federation patterns.

RBAC, Identity & Access Control

• Design backend services with RBAC-aware access control.
• Integrate with enterprise identity providers such as Microsoft Entra ID / Azure Active Directory.
• Implement role-based permissions, tenant-level access, department-level access, and user-level data visibility rules.
• Ensure AI agents and tools operate within approved user permissions and organizational policies.
• Support audit trails for user actions, AI actions, data access, and workflow execution.
• Observability, Reliability & Operations
  Implement end-to-end observability across APIs, workflows, AI calls, integrations, and background jobs.
• Set up logging, metrics, tracing, monitoring, alerting, and error handling.
• Support secure deployment, DevOps pipelines, environment configuration, and production readiness.
• Design solutions with scalability, fault tolerance, maintainability, and compliance in mind.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong backend development experience using modern API frameworks.
• Experience designing secure, scalable APIs for enterprise applications.
• Hands-on experience with workflow orchestration tools such as N8N, Microsoft Copilot Studio, Semantic Kernel, Logic Apps, Power Automate, or similar platforms.
• Experience with API gateway configuration, authentication, authorization, throttling, logging, and monitoring.
• Strong understanding of RBAC, enterprise identity, SSO, OAuth2, JWT, API keys, and Microsoft Entra ID.
• Experience with session management, state handling, workflow execution, and background processing.
• Good understanding of AI application architecture, RAG systems, agentic workflows, and secure tool execution.
• Experience with cloud deployment, containerized services, CI/CD, and production-grade monitoring.
• Strong knowledge of secure software development practices.
