Join Paysend’s Consumer Platform team and help build the next generation of a global payments platform.
This role focuses on developing and improving backend systems that power payment flows, compliance processes, fraud tooling, and large-scale financial operations. As part of an ongoing migration from a legacy Oracle + Java platform, you’ll work on modernizing core services and building new platform capabilities used across the business.
The platform is built around PL/pgSQL and PostgreSQL , which power core business workflows and transactional processing, while backend services in Java, Kotlin and C# to support integrations and external processing.
You’ll work on complex backend and data challenges involving high transaction volumes, strict consistency requirements, asynchronous workflows, and distributed systems, with a strong focus on reliability, correctness, and performance.
This role is best suited for engineers who enjoy deeply technical backend work, strong database engineering, and solving complex system problems under real operational scale.
Design and implement technical solutions across payment flows, compliance tooling, fraud scenarios, and platform migrations
Develop and maintain PL/pgSQL-based business logic, process workers, and migration scripts
Own and evolve PostgreSQL-based data models, queries, and performance optimization across multiple services
Work within a microservices ecosystem, handling service communication, dependencies, and asynchronous workflows
Build and improve external job handlers and integrations using Java, Kotlin, or C#
Develop migration pipelines and data-processing workflows as part of the transition from the legacy Oracle platform
Ensure transactional correctness, reliability, and consistency across high-volume financial operations
Monitor and improve system performance, observability, scalability, and operational reliability
Strong hands-on experience with PL/pgSQL in production environments (this is a core part of the platform architecture)
Experience writing and debugging stored procedures, process workers, and migration scripts
Experience with Java, Kotlin, or C# for backend services and integrations
Strong PostgreSQL knowledge, including transaction semantics, JSONB, partitioning, and query optimization
Experience working with distributed systems and microservices architectures
Strong understanding of data consistency, transactions, and financial correctness
Ability to write and maintain SQL-based tests
Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and modern development workflows
Experience in fintech, payments, compliance, fraud prevention, or other transaction-heavy systems
Experience with RabbitMQ, Kafka, or asynchronous messaging systems
Experience with GitLab CI/CD pipelines
Familiarity with Docker and containerized environments
Experience working with large-scale data migrations or legacy platform modernization projects
