Backend Engineer (PHP)

Reporting To: Engineering Lead
Compensation: €35,000 - €40,000 / year

Due to company growth and international expansion, an opportunity has become available for an experienced Backend Engineer (PHP) to join our team.
Location & Contract Type: This is a hybrid role that would require presence in our Sofia or Plovdiv office twice per week.
What You’ll be Doing:
- Defining, interpreting and developing software to written requirements and technical specifications
- Suggesting improvements to existing products and implementing them across our platform.
- Troubleshooting, testing and maintaining the core product and databases to ensure it is functional and scalable
- Assisting QA in defining acceptance tests and performing troubleshooting
- Supporting the creation and maintenance of technical documentation
- Writing clean, well-designed code, following coding standards and best practices
- Working with globally distributed and multi-disciplinary teams
- Participating in mentoring and knowledge-sharing activities
Experience and Skills You Need in this Role:
- Proven experience developing web applications with PHP 8 or later
- Proficient in SQL, with hands-on experience using MySQL
- Strong understanding of OOP concepts and SOLID design principles
- Familiarity with common software design patterns
- Experience with unit and integration testing (e.g., PHPUnit or similar)
- Proven experience developing and consuming APIs
- Proficient with Git for version control
- Excellent English communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
Desirable:
- Experience with Amazon Web Services
- Experience with CI/CD tooling
- Experience with Docker
The Interview Process:
- Screening call with a member of the Talent Team
- 45-minute video interview with the Engineering Manager
- Final video 75 minute video interview with the Engineering Manager and Engineering Lead
