ABOUT THE ROLE We are looking for a Backend Developer to design, build, and maintain scalable systems for a Product-led engineering team. This person works in Java and/or Kotlin with Spring Boot, GraphQL, MongoDB, and Aurora MySQL on AWS, covering everything from operational tooling to system architecture. Comfort picking up compliance, cost-savings, and observability work matters here. WHAT YOU WILL DO - Take on lower-priority engineering work the team lacks bandwidth for, including compliance and engineering maintenance, cost-savings, observability, experiment clean-up, and operational tool development. - Design, build, and maintain scalable, performant, and reliable software systems. - Contribute to system architecture and technical design, validating solutions through data and experimentation where appropriate. - Participate in code reviews and design reviews to maintain high engineering standards. - Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners, including software engineers, product managers, data scientists, and designers. - Partner with a Product Manager and fellow engineers to clarify requirements and perform mid-level design work, focusing primarily on coding, testing, and documentation. MUST HAVES - 3+ years of professional, backend-focused software development experience . - Proficiency in Java and/or Kotlin . - Proficiency in a modern NoSQL database, MongoDB on Atlas . - Proficiency in a modern relational database, Aurora MySQL on AWS . - Experience building cloud-native distributed systems on AWS . - Experience with the Spring Boot framework. - API development with GraphQL (Netflix DGS) . - Experience building and operating large-scale, high-performance, and resilient systems on a major cloud platform. - Upper-intermediate English level. NICE TO HAVES - Event-driven system development, ideally with Apache Kafka and/or SQS. - AI-assisted coding experience. - Terraform. - Experience building microservices. - API development with gRPC and REST.
