Vimotek is a space company, recently named on Ny Teknik’s 33 Listas one of Sweden’s most promising technology startups, working to de-risk spacecraft proximity operations, accelerate time-to-orbit and enable scaling of in-orbit services.

The company equips space companies’ engineering and operations teams with leading dual-use solutions for in-space automation within two closely associated and complementary domains:

1. Digital Twins of Spacecraft for Missions Simulation and Validation

2. AI-Driven Sensing, Perception and Control

Your role

We are now looking for an experienced Backend Developerwho wants to take a central role in shaping both our product and the technical foundation behind it. This is a role for someone who enjoys building products from the ground up, cares deeply about quality and reliability, and wants real influence in a fast-growing, ambitious company

As a Backend Developer at Vimotek, you will work closely with product owners, engineers, and the software team to shape the direction of our simulation and validation platform. You will contribute both strategically and hands-on, helping us build scalable, reliable, and maintainable systemsfor the next phase of our product.

You will:

• Collaborate with product owners to shape product direction and business strategy.

• Contribute your experience as a developer to help grow the team and improve how we work.

• Use your strong cloud and infrastructure expertise to ensure scalability, reliability, and long-term maintainability.

• Lead the team’s work in planning and prioritizing development efforts.

• Take an active, hands-on role in backend development and core product functionality.

• Work on simulation capabilities for complex space operations

• Support engineers from different disciplines in developing simulation functionality, including areas such as thermal systems, robotics, orbital mechanics, and more.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• At least 5 years of professional software development experience

• Strong experience building backend systems from the ground up.

• Solid understanding of system design, software architecture, and scalable backend design.

• Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, hybrid infrastructure, or modern deployment environments.

• Experience designing, deploying, and maintaining reliable production systems.

• Practical experience with technologies such as Python, Java, Go, REST APIs, GraphQL, Docker, Kubernetes, databases, and GitHub Actions

• Strong understanding of DevOps practices and modern CI/CD workflows

• Ability to contribute hands-on to backend development as well as core product functionality.

• Experience working with performance, reliability, maintainability, and long-term scalability in mind.

• Ability to collaborate closely with product owners and engineering teams to shape product direction and technical priorities.

• Willingness to take ownership, lead planning and prioritization, and help improve team processes.

• Interest in working primarily on-site with a young, ambitious, and fast-moving team.

Bonus Skills (Nice to Have)

• Previous experience in the space industry.

• Experience with digital twins or complex simulation software.

• Knowledge of simulation domains such as orbital mechanics, robotics, thermal systems, or other engineering simulations.

• Experience developing software for validation, verification, or mission-critical systems.

• Experience with AI-assisted development or applying AI in modern software workflows.

• Experience working in a startup, scaleup, or product-led technology company.

• Frontend experience with React.

The company’s primary language is English, proficiency in additional languages is a plus.

Right to work in Sweden:You must already have legal authorization to work in Sweden (EU/EEA citizenship, permanent residence, or a valid Swedish work permit). We cannot offer visa sponsorship for this role.

Location:This role is based in Luleå and requires working on-site regularly.
