Job Description

Founded in 1970, East Valley Community Health Center is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) who's services include providing personalized, affordable, high-quality medical, dental, vision and behavioral health care through a community-based network within the East San Gabriel Valley and Pomona Communities. Our staff practices patient-centered care by serving each patient with a personalized care plan that meets their individual needs. Our patients have access to support services that include, nutrition, health education, case management, pharmacy, lab, and x-ray at our health center locations. East Valley serves the health care needs of uninsured and underserved individuals and families throughout our 8 health center locations.

MAJOR POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides chair-side assistance to dentist in the performance of dental procedures.
  • Takes radiographs as directed by dentist (only assistants who have completed courses on radiation safety).
  • Prepares, sterilizes, and organizes dental supply and dental equipment according to OSHA and Clinic Standards.
  • Supervision of dental auxiliary staff.
  • Maintain housekeeping records.
  • Ensures policies and procedures are established and followed in accordance with OSHA, federal, state, and local guidelines.
  • Assists in the monitoring and maintenance of radiation safety procedures and protocols.
  • Orders and maintains inventories of dental clinic supplies by working with the Purchasing Department.
  • Interacts with and processes dental clinic patients.
  • Maintains dental laboratory slips.
  • Creates and maintains dental records in accordance with established protocol and procedures.
  • Drafts patient letters as assigned by Dental Director.
  • Formats and word processes correspondences, reports, forms, etc., including proofreading and editing.
  • Records, composes, and word processes meeting minutes for clinical meetings and other committee meetings.
  • Assists with planning and implementation of meetings.
  • Prints patients’ dental records per Authorization for the Release of Dental Records.
  • Assists in monthly reporting and quality improvement activities, such as the dental appointment statistics.
  • Weekly review of dental schedule to ensure efficient workflow and patient care.
  • Monitor and process dental assistants’ timesheets.
  • Maintains filing system.
  • Assists other departments with work processing when required.
  • Reports to work as scheduled consistently and on-time.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Dental Director.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certificate from accredited dental assistant program, if applicable.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of California Board of Dental Examiners-approved radiation safety course.
  • Proof of completion of a board-approved 8-hour infection control course ( Approved Infection Control Courses)
  • 1-2 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified preferred.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Current and Active RDA license in good standing, if applicable.
  • Completion of 8-hour Infection Control and Law as required by the California Dental Boards, if applicable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent team player.
  • Type 60 words per minute.
  • Knowledge of all current Windows based programs.
  • Ability to work under pressure without extensive supervision.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish highly preferred

DOE: $27.00 - $35.73

Who We Are

We are a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) that provides family medicine, pediatrics, women’s health, behavioral health, dental and vision services to individuals across the East San Gabriel Valley and Pomona Communities. We practice patient-centered care and strive to serve each patient with the care that meets their individual needs.

Who We Serve

Our service area is a large, diverse, complex and rapidly changing geographic area that is home to over 700,000 people and faces significant challenges in chronic disease, including diabetes, hypertension and asthma. The majority of our patients are the working poor, and 62% are uninsured. East Valley holds public and private contracts with many funding sources, which allow us to provide medical services at very low cost to qualifying individuals. East Valley is also affiliated with two local IPAs and holds managed care contracts with most health plans operating in California. Fees for our services are on a sliding scale, but no one is turned away because of inability to pay. East Valley accepts all public health insurance, such as Medi-Cal (also known as Medicaid), Medicare, and public programs such as My Health L.A. as well as private health insurance.

Most importantly, if you or your family are not covered by any health insurance plan, our certified enrollment counselors will help you apply for Covered CA, Medi-Cal, Medicare so you can be assured your that you are accessing the best coverage options for and your family. If you don’t qualify for health insurance we can assist you with public programs, such as My Health L.A. (MHLA) in accordance to their eligibility requirements.

East Valley is a medical home for people who cannot be seen or cared for anywhere else.
