ArianeGroup GmbH in Lampoldshausen is looking for a Bachelor-/ Masterthesis in the field of - In situ calibration of LF and HF electrical measurement (m/f/d) for the department JLOM7 – EP Integration & Test.

Your main tasks and activities:

Ground support equipments (GSE) for electrical satellite thruster hot firing tests need to be calibrated for example by comparison of measurement values within the complete measurement chain and range with a calibrated instrument of better measurement accuracy. This can be done by dismounting of the GSE instruments and sending them into an external calibration lab, but this is time consuming and has the disadvantage that the measurement chain and test environment is different in both cases so the calibration results are likely less significant. Within the frame of the thesis, an automated calibration process for all electrical measurements (voltages, currents, frequencies) shall be elaborated that shall be used to calibrate the GSE instruments without dismounting them.

  • Review / literature survey of industrial standard on calibration methods and measurement accuracy
  • Review of historical calibration results/data sheets
  • Elaboration of a specification of the calibration jig
  • Develop a Test jig that can produce reproducible current / voltage spikes / drops
  • LT Spice simulation of the test rig shall be performed
  • Characterize the Influence of AC superposition of DC currents/voltages
  • Write and specify a software that allows the automatic execution of user-defined test sequences
  • Defining a software interface which transfer relevant data to SAP PM or Siemens Team Center
  • Planning and conducting a verification test
  • Documentation within a design description

You have the following qualifications:

  • Enrolled fulltime student (m/f/d) within engineering or physics with focus on practical electrical subjects
  • Practical electrical measurement / laboratory experience
  • Interfacing laboratory instruments with a computer
  • Programming experience ideally in Labview, Python or similar
  • General solid IT proficiency
  • Very good English and German language skills (as operator procedures are written in German language)
  • Vocational training in an electrical profession
