Job Description

Social Security Scotland are looking for an individual to join the Fraud and Error Unit as a Team Leader. Do you have experience in leading and motivating a team undertaking complex benefit decision making? Do you have experience in working effectively with stakeholders in a changing environment and contributing to overcoming challenges? If you do, then this opportunity for a B3 Fraud and Error Decision Making Team Leader may be for you.

Social Security Scotland’s Fraud and Error Resolution Unit (FERU) is seeking a Fraud Decision Making Team Leader, within the Error and Insights Branch. This is a high-profile role where you will apply your leadership skills and benefit decision-making expertise in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

In this role you will manage a team of Fraud and Error Decision Makers. Ensuring that your team operates to instructions, and all decisions are fair, consistent and comply with the law and with policy intent. You will also be involved in the creation, implementation and review of comprehensive, high-quality decision- making guidance.

Responsibilities

  • Coaching, developing, leading and motivating your team to achieve team objectives, ensuring robust workforce planning, recruitment, induction and training are in place.

  • Undertaking and recording management checks; ensuring that your team operates to instructions, and all decisions are fair, consistent and comply with the law and with policy intent.

  • Providing guidance and support to staff as required, especially for unusual, high interest or complex cases, seeking support from policy and legal where required.

  • Contribute to the creation, and then implementation of comprehensive, high-quality decision-making guidance.

  • Managing workflow and caseload to ensure prompt resolution of cases, including working with project teams and policy stakeholders to resolve complex cases.

  • Ensuring that appropriate MI is collected to inform service development and meet reporting requirem ents.

  • Taking appropriate measures to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of yourself and your staff.

  • Data and Insight – Practitioner Level

Experience

  • Leading a team making complex and high-profile entitlement decisions ensuring fairness, consistency and compliance with the law and policy intent.
  • Experience in collaborating with a wide range of operational, policy, and legal stakeholders to develop robust processes and policy to resolve complex cases.
  • Experience of analysing and reviewing data and drafting reports summarising key points and risks.

Behaviours:

  • Managing a Quality Service – Level 3 - Deliver service objectives with professional excellence, expertise and efficiency, taking account of diverse customer needs.

Working pattern
Our standard hours are 35 hours per week and we offer a range of flexible working options, depending on the needs of the role. We embrace a hybrid working style where all colleagues will spend time in either our Glasgow or Dundee offices. There is an expectation of a minimum 2 days per week in your assigned location, which will be either Enterprise House, Dundee or 220 High Street, Glasgow. This role is only available to existing permanent civil servants who have successfully completed their probation period within Social Security Scotland, or the broader Scottish Government.
