Job Description

This post is for an Assistant Finance Manager in the Benefit Accounting and Forecasting team within Social Security Scotland’s Finance and Corporate Services division. The role will be on a temporary basis for up to nine months.

The Benefit Accounting and Forecasting team is primarily responsible for ensuring the organisation has robust financial management arrangements in place for accounting for benefits including the management of the organisations banking structure and cash flows, while ensuring value for money for the taxpayer.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to monthly reconciliations and internal controls, analysis and review, and management sign off.
  • Provide oversight and support for Social Security Scotland’s banking and cash management activities and processes.
  • Line management responsibility for 1-2 Finance Officers (B1), providing support and guidance to team members. Being proactive with performance management to develop and fulfil their potential by identifying and meeting training needs.
  • Proactive oversight and management of team workload, deadlines and priorities.
  • Provide support for the accounting of benefit expenditure and associated debt.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with colleagues within Social Security Scotland, the wider directorate, Audit Scotland, the Scottish Government including Treasury and Banking, and the Department for Work and Pensions.
  • Assist with the preparation of the Annual Report and Accounts.
  • Work flexibly across the Finance team, taking on a range of other work as required to ensure that priorities are met and to support professional training.
  • To support the development and continuous improvement of financial information and reports, to increase financial awareness and accountability across the team.

Duration of Temporary Opportunity
This TP/TLT opportunity will be for up to 9 months in duration.

Hybrid Working
We embrace a hybrid working style where all colleagues will spend time in either our Glasgow or Dundee offices. There is an expectation of a minimum 2 days per week in your assigned location which is either Agnes Husband House, Dundee or 220 High Street, Glasgow.
