Role Purpose

We are seeking an experienced Senior Azure Engineer to design, build, migrate and support secure, reliable, and scalable cloud solutions within Microsoft Azure. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering cloud transformation initiatives, infrastructure-as-code implementations, disaster recovery solutions, and platform modernisation programmes.

Working within agile, multidisciplinary teams, you will provide technical leadership across the Azure estate, helping to automate infrastructure deployment, improve operational excellence, and support business-critical cloud services. You will be comfortable engaging with stakeholders, contributing to technical strategy, and mentoring engineers whilst maintaining a hands-on approach to engineering delivery.

Requirements

  • Design, deploy and support Azure infrastructure solutions.
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Bicep.
  • Build and manage Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines using YAML.
  • Deliver Azure migration activities and workload onboarding.
  • Implement and support Azure Site Recovery (ASR) and disaster recovery testing.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve Azure, Linux and infrastructure issues.
  • Automate operational tasks using shell scripting and platform tooling.
  • Produce technical documentation and operational runbooks.
  • Work within Agile/Scrum teams and contribute to sprint delivery.
  • Mentor junior engineers and promote engineering best practice.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong Azure infrastructure engineering experience.
  • Proven experience with Infrastructure as Code using Bicep.
  • Experience building and maintaining Azure DevOps pipelines.
  • Strong YAML pipeline development experience.
  • Experience delivering Azure migration projects.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure Site Recovery (ASR).
  • Experience supporting production Azure environments.
  • Linux server administration experience.
  • Shell scripting (Bash).
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum delivery teams.
  • Understanding of Azure networking, security and identity services.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex infrastructure issues.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Azure landing zones and governance implementation.
  • Azure Backup.
  • Azure Monitor and Log Analytics.
  • Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD).
  • PowerShell scripting.
  • Hybrid cloud environments.
  • Container technologies such as AKS or Docker.
  • Experience working within secure or regulated environments.
  • Microsoft Azure certifications (AZ-104, AZ-305 or equivalent).
  • Experience leading technical workstreams or small engineering teams.

This role will require you to have or be willing to go through Security Clearance. As part of the onboarding process candidates will be asked to complete a Baseline Personnel Security Standard; details of the evidence required to apply may be found on the government website Gov.UK. If you are unable to meet this and any associated criteria, then your employment may be delayed, or rejected . Details of this will be discussed with you at interview
