  • Mental Health First Aid Training (held late April on a weekend)

  • Training Begins, Thursday, September 3rd; 1:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

I.Description/Purpose of the Position: The Community Building Team Leader (CBT) is integral to the Housing Operations arm of the Office of Residence Life, conducting day-to-day supervisory and management activities relating to the Community Building Manager (CBM) team, who oversee residence hall front desk and storage operations, including work orders, sustainability, and key management. When working at the front desk or in storage, the CBT shall adhere to the same responsibilities and procedures outlined in the CBA/CBM manual.

III. Position Responsibilities:

  1. Community Building Manager Supervision and Support
  • Assist with CBM fall training and ongoing training throughout the academic year.
  • Facilitate monthly or as-needed training for CBMs.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with CBMs for mentorship, coaching, and evaluation.
  • Serve as a liaison between CBMs and the Associate Dean of Students for Housing Operations.
  • Maintain regular communication with CBMs regarding responsibilities, expectations, and operational concerns
  • Address and document CBM performance concerns in consultation with the Associate Dean for Housing Operations
  • Provide coaching and support to CBMs when performance or operational concerns arise.
  • Distribute and maintain front desk and storage schedules for the academic year, residence hall openings, and break periods.
  • Conduct unannounced visits to front desks to ensure procedures and expectations are being followed.
  • Verify and approve CBM timecards.
  • Maintain accurate CBM rosters, staff information, and communication aliases.
  1. Storage Operations
  • Maintain accurate storage logs.
  • Conduct quarterly storage room walk-throughs with CBMs to assess safety, security, cleanliness, and organization.
  • Identify belongings that are improperly documented, outdated, or unauthorized.
  • Communicate with residents regarding belongings requiring documentation, removal, or other action.
  • Maintain organized storage of loft kits, safety rails, and other housing equipment.
  • Identify damaged equipment and coordinate its removal for repair or disposal.
  • Restock equipment, supplies, and required forms.
  • Support consistent implementation of storage procedures and guidelines.
  1. Front Desk and Common Area Operations
  • Coordinate with CBMs to ensure front desks are stocked with necessary equipment, supplies, forms, and materials
  • Support the organization and maintenance of front desk areas.
  • Assist with the distribution and management of front desk keys.
  • Help identify and address operational concerns affecting front desk services.
  • Support consistent implementation of front desk procedures.
  • Follow applicable CBA/CBM procedures when working directly at front desks.
  1. Administrative Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate staff records, schedules, rosters, and operational documentation.
  • Verify and approve CBM timecards.
  • Assist with staff scheduling for regular operations, residence hall openings, and break periods.
  • Complete reports and administrative tasks assigned by the Associate Dean for Housing Operations.
  • Use Google Workspace, particularly Google Sheets and Forms, to maintain and organize information.
  • Maintain confidentiality when handling student, staff, and operational information.
  • Maintain staff aliases and other communication resources.
  • Assist with end-of-term and housing transition operations.
  1. Residential and Housing Operations Support
  • Residence hall opening and closing operations.
  • Check-out inspections.
  • Collection and distribution of resident keys.
  • Front desk and storage transitions.
  • Supporting housing operations during high-volume periods.
  • Other housing operations responsibilities as assigned.
  1. Emergency and Incident Response
  • Responding to fire alarms and facilities emergencies.
  • Supporting appropriate responses to residence hall emergencies.
  • Responding to potential policy violations.
  • Supporting residents experiencing medical or other urgent concerns.
  • Recognizing and reporting student well-being concerns to appropriate professional staff.
  • Following Residence Life emergency response procedures.
  • Contacting professional staff or emergency personnel when situations exceed the scope of the position or training.

IV. Meetings, Training, and Professional Development

  • Bi-weekly CBM Staff Meetings: Approximately 60–90 minutes, led by the Associate Dean for Housing Operations. Meetings are held on Mondays at 4:00 p.m.
  • Bi-weekly Individual Meetings with the Associate Dean for Housing Operations: Approximately 30–60 minutes.
  • Bi-weekly One-on-One Meetings with CBMs: Approximately 30 minutes.
  • Monthly CBA In-Service Meetings: Approximately 60 minutes, held on the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m.
  • Mental Health First Aid Training: Typically held during a weekend in late April.
  • Summer Training: Held in May.
  • Additional training, meetings, and professional development opportunities as assigned.

CBCs must be able to make required meeting and training times available in their schedules.

V. Requirements of this position(Education):

  • Minimum cumulative/semester GPA of 2.5
  • Good academic standing.
  • No open sanctions.
  • Assignment of academic probation or disciplinary sanctioning at any point during employment may result in immediate dismissal from this position.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check after hire.

VI.Qualifications: (Education/Experience/Skills)

  • Ability to work independently and create individualized schedules that allow for assigned tasks to be completed in a timely and efficient manner. This requires strong time management and prioritization to allow ample time for academic, employment, and social commitments.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills to allow for effective and timely correspondence regarding job-related inquiries and requests from the AD for Housing Operations. Must apply this same timeliness to student questions regarding front desk services.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, especially Sheets and Forms, or strong motivation to grow in these areas.
  • Related work/office experience may include public contact, phone skills, and organizational skills.
  • Flexible with co-curricular time commitments in order to prioritize CBT work and meetings.
  • Can be trusted to handle confidential material.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and antiracism.

Physical and Environmental Factors:

This position requires crouching, kneeling/crawling, stooping, twisting/pivoting, reaching overhead, grasping/handling, pushing/pulling, and lifting and carrying objects up to 50 lbs. to perform the essential functions. It also requires exposure to loud noise and rare exposure to respiratory factors, chemicals, wet or humid conditions indoors, extreme cold, extreme heat, and heights or cramped quarters to perform the essential functions. Protective equipment is required for some essential functions.
