This role assists in promoting and increasing visibility for the St. Olaf by creating journalist-friendly content and internal coverage reports under the direction of the Director of Public Relations. The Media Relations Student Worker within the St. Olaf Marketing & Communications division is intended for a candidate with interest in a communications, media and public relations and/or journalism career. This individual will assist in promoting and increasing visibility for St. Olaf College by executing the public, media and external relations plan.
It is preferred that the applicant has previous office experience and good organizational skills. Applicants must be able to commit to at minimum 2 hours per week, with project assignments between 5-7 hours per week.

Writing

Qualifications: (Education/Experience/Skills)
Required:
Must be a currently enrolled St. Olaf student seeking a degree or concentration in creative writing, English, or related field. Must be enrolled in the minimum number of credits for eligibility for student employment.
Must be able to present completed news articles, blog posts, creative writing assignments or written work relevant to the role for review
Must have excellent interpersonal, grammar, punctuation, and written and oral communication skills.
Commit to 6-8 hours per week.
Preferred:
Previous office experiences.
Good organizational skills
Experience following a style guide and brand standards.
Knowledge of AP Style.
A dedicated team player, capable of working on multiple projects simultaneously in a goal-oriented environment.
Detail-oriented and organized, able to work on projects and generate ideas independently or in collaboration, while meeting tight deadlines.
Ability to learn new areas quickly, take ownership of issues/problems, and develop solutions.
