Description of the Position: (Purpose of the Position):

To coordinate and execute the practical, logistical, and technical aspects of Dance Department Large Show productions ensuring the smooth operation of cue to cue, technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals and performances.

• Collaboration- Work with the Dance Technical Director, Stage Technicians, directors of productions, choreographers and students involved

• Organization- Keeping work area and work flow clear and well maintained

• Application- Apply all taught tasks and training to build self-confidence and skills during and beyond scheduled shifts

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Attend rehearsals leading up to Tech Week
• Create, distribute and compile a Technical Questionnaire for the production
• Observe and learn the various pieces and their production elements to be able to recall order of events and know the technical needs of each piece
• Coordinate and create cast and crew lists, sign in sheets
• Be present for all rehearsals of tech week every day from Friday before opening through the following Saturday (typical)
• Work closely with the Dance Department Technical Director to learn all technical cues needed for the production and be able to call them at the appropriate time
• Manage and direct Student Stage Technicians throughout the course of Tech week and productions
• Manage performers
• Create and compile performance and rehearsal reports

Qualifications: (Education/Experience/Skills)

• Interest in backstage work for live productions
• Past experience as a stage technician
• Must be attentive to details
• Must be highly organized
• Must be a good leader and willing to lead
• Must be able to communicate clearly, give and follow directives
• Knowledge of the inner workings of a Theater are preferred
• Preferred work of at least two years of experience as a Dance Stage Technician or similar experience
• Knowledge of backstage workflow during cue to cue, technical and dress rehearsals and live performances

Physical and Environmental Factors:

This position could require crouching, kneeling/crawling, stooping, twisting/pivoting, climbing/balancing, reaching overhead, grasping/handling, pushing/pulling, lifting and carrying objects up to 50 lbs., operating hand tools, and operating equipment or machinery to perform the essential functions. It also requires exposure to loud noise, respiratory factors, chemicals, proximity hazards, and heights or cramped quarters to perform the essential functions. Protective equipment is required for some essential functions. Candidates must possess the ability to safely perform the physical work required of all duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
