Description of the Position: (Purpose of the Position):

The objective of the Northfield College Tutor program is to motivate and guide Northfield students’ academic success through weekly tutoring sessions. Tutoring is provided in 3 elementary schools and one middle school within the Northfield School District. This position is expected to serve as a positive role model for children in the Northfield School District. Tutors, when hired, will be paired with a teacher primarily based on schedule availability.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Commit to work scheduled hours every week as a tutor
  • Orient with the supervisor (teacher) to understand classroom dynamics and supervisor expectations.
  • Assist individual students or small groups with academic needs
  • Meet all program expectations, including paperwork, dress code, background check, code of conduct and attendance policies
  • Maintain clear communication with supervisors each semester (i.e. email, office visits)
  • Participate in program evaluation/end of year survey

Qualifications: (Education/Experience/Skills)

  • Reliable and patient with a desire to motivate and assist students in grades K-8
  • Effective communication schools
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to receive and give instruction
