We're looking for people who are passionate about maths and want to help bring positive change to the young people we support. You should have a strong conceptual understanding of mathematics and the enthusiasm to inspire others with it. You should also be highly organised and self-motivated, with the drive to make a real difference.
We exist to serve pupils from backgrounds that are under-represented in university mathematics, and believe that we do this better when our team includes people who are from these backgrounds themselves. If you consider yourself to be from a background where progressing to university mathematics is not the norm then we strongly encourage you to apply.
Axiom Maths is a maths education charity on a mission to help every child with the heart and head for maths realise the potential of their power - especially those whose potential is too often held back by disadvantage. Every year 30,000 children who were top performers at the end of primary school don't go on to get top GCSE grades in maths. We aim to change that by partnering with schools across England and Wales to run fully-funded in-school or online maths circles. Pupils tackle challenging and rewarding maths problems in a supportive social group where the subject is valued.
This is an exciting chance to share your passion for maths, challenge young minds and nurture mathematical talent in pupils from up and down the country.
As an Axiom Maths Mentor, you will lead weekly hour-long online maths circles with small groups of carefully selected high-attaining pupils. These aren't ordinary lessons. Axiom Maths is a taught enrichment programme that takes pupils beyond the school curriculum. Pupils tackle challenging and rewarding problems together, lose themselves in mathematical thinking, and leave each session a little more confident in who they are as mathematicians.
You will be provided with training, introductory videos, and curriculum materials for every session, so you can focus on what matters: sparking curiosity and building the next generation of mathematicians. There are more details about our maths circles here: What is an Axiom Maths Circle?
Watch the introductory video, work through the problems yourself, read the guidance notes and think about how you'll draw the maths out of your pupils.
Lead sessions that spark curiosity, stretch thinking, and challenge and inspire.
Help pupils see themselves as mathematicians and feel part of a larger network of like-minded peers supporting each other.
Alongside your online maths circles, you can choose to opt in to additional paid opportunities if they arise. These may include leading in-person maths circles in local schools, supporting events, and delivering pilot programmes. Travel expenses are covered for in-person work.
These opportunities are entirely optional. Online-only mentoring is equally valued.
Safeguarding: At Axiom Maths, safeguarding the children we work with is our highest priority. All candidates must be willing to undergo an Enhanced DBS check and provide two professional or academic references.
As part of your application you'll review our materials, solve a maths problem and record a video of up to 5 minutes explaining it to a fellow mentor. Guidance is found here https://axiommaths.notion.site/Axiom-Maths-Mentor-application-Degree-Dash-3edfd27bc85d80c6b651db4f5d5f9da7
Please note, your application must include the video submission to be considered.
Please refer to our https://careers.axiommaths.com/pages/using-ai-in-applications-policy for guidance on where it is and isn't appropriate to use AI in your application.
We don't want potential candidates to be put off if they believe they do not meet every one of the criteria described above. We are most interested in finding the best candidate for the job, and that candidate may be one who comes from a less traditional background. We would encourage you to apply, even if you don't believe you meet every one of our criteria.
We are especially keen to receive applications from people whose background is under-represented in mathematics.
Axiom Maths is an equal opportunities employer and will not discriminate against any candidate on the basis of any characteristic protected by the Equality Act 2010.

Maths gives us power. It teaches us to imagine things never before imagined. To solve unsolvable challenges.
But every year 30,000 children who were top performers at the end of primary school don’t go on to get top GCSE grades in maths. Half of top performers who were on free school meals aged eleven are no longer top performers by sixteen.
Axiom Maths exists to change this. We partner with schools to help every child with the head and heart for maths realise the potential of their power.
