AWS DevOps Engineer (Medior) – Cloud Platform Engineering

About the Opportunity

We are looking for a passionate AWS DevOps Engineer to join a large-scale cloud platform engineering initiative within the Belgian public sector. The successful candidate will support the management, automation, and operationalization of mission-critical AWS workloads hosted on a centralized cloud platform.

You will work within a Platform Engineering team responsible for building and maintaining a hub-and-spoke AWS architecture that supports high-impact digital services and government platforms. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to ambitious cloud transformation projects in a modern DevOps-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

• 
  Manage, maintain, and optimize the central AWS platform and hosted workloads.
• 
  Further develop and scale the Infrastructure as Code (IaC) environment.
• 
  Automate CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes across multiple environments.
• 
  Support the rollout and operationalization of applications within AWS landing zones.
• 
  Configure and manage platform components such as networking, DNS, logging, monitoring, and security services.
• 
  Monitor platform health, reliability, and performance.
• 
  Implement recovery and failover strategies to ensure system availability.
• 
  Support onboarding of new workloads and integrations within the hub-and-spoke architecture.
• 
  Collaborate closely with development teams, architects, and platform engineers in an Agile/DevOps environment.

Required Skills & Experience

Must-Have

• 
  3+ years of experience with CI/CD automation tools such as GitHub and Azure DevOps Pipelines.
• 
  3+ years of hands-on experience with Python.
• 
  3+ years of experience working with AWS or similar cloud technologies.
• 
  3+ years of practical experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
• 
  Experience setting up and maintaining centralized hosting platforms within a hub-and-spoke architecture.
• 
  Fluent Dutch communication skills at CEFR Level C2.
• 
  Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
• 
  Ability to provide signed NDA documentation.

Nice-to-Have

• 
  Experience within the Flemish government or public-sector environments.
• 
  Experience working in Agile and DevOps cultures.
• 
  Experience with Azure DevOps.
• 
  Experience managing container orchestration platforms such as:
  • 
    ECS Fargate
  • 
    Kubernetes
  • 
    Docker
• 
  Knowledge of AWS services and cloud-native architectures.
• 
  Knowledge of PostgreSQL, MSSQL, or MongoDB administration.

Technical Environment

You will work on a centralized AWS Hub platform containing shared services and core infrastructure components including:

  Network architecture
• 
  DNS services
• 
  Logging and monitoring
• 
  Deployment APIs
• 
  Shared security and operational tooling

The platform supports major digital government services and continues to expand with new projects and cloud migration initiatives.
