The Team Leader role is a shift-based production role, the successful candidate will be leading the manufacturing technicians to deliver the production department goals and provide support for the Systems Performance Managers and Operations Manager.

The Staverton factory employs over 200 colleagues, with around 120 working in operational roles. In this position, you’ll be part of a shift team of up to 30 people, while also working more closely within smaller groups of typically 10–15 team members.

As a member of our manufacturing team, you will carry out a wide range of duties associated with the manufacturing of breakfast cereals, from the early stages of the production process through to dispatch.


Your Impact

The focus of the role is to lead and coach the shift-based technicians, owning the completion of site standards, procedures and working practices. You will take ownership of your team’s training plan and take accountability for the annual appraisal system. Improving performance will be at the heart of this role – performance in people, standards and output.

Key responsibilities include:

  • To lead and drive the shift in reaction to operational needs (resources, people, planning) -1st point of contact for shop floor escalation
  • Responsible for Process Order Management, Costs and supporting colleagues to deliver.
  • Drive Manufacturing Excellence through working with AWGs and delivering TPM activities
    Lead the Safety Culture and conditions for a Safe Working Environment. Check and enforce personnel hygiene & safety procedures (e.g PPE, GMP, LOTO, etc.)
  • Ensure that finished products are consistently manufactured according to standards of quality and relevant manufacturing instructions (compliance). Ensure that the working areas are kept clean and are maintained in working order including all installations in accordance to Nestlé Good Manufacturing Practices (NGMP)
  • Support the Systems Performance Managers in development of working group team members. Support Systems Performance Manager by facilitating training where SPMs identify gaps in training and through coaching members of the team. Deliver Personal Development Review to shift leaders member group.
  • Ensure data accuracy by providing coaching, support and good level of challenge to shift leader Group in maintenance of database of Globe, DMO and other data entry systems in operation
  • Review labour plan to deliver production plan.

Ingredients for success

  • Leadership of teams ranging from 10-15 colleagues within manufacturing environment
  • Strong Health and hygiene mindset, evidence being attendance of Health and safety training along with food safety training.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent co-ordination skills and have to ability to influence a working group of dual skilled Operations Technicians
  • Experience in a team leadership position is essential.
  • Working knowledge of H&S, environmental and legislative requirements within food manufacturing environment is essential.
  • TPM or Lean Manufacturing experience is desirable.
  • Proven interpersonal and technical skills with the ability to motivate individuals and teams.
  • Ability to problem-solve and analyse. Committed to root cause analysis and pro-active continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to access and respond to changing priorities, displaying planning and organisation skills
