Job Description

The Deputy Team Lead supports Team Lead in managing the day-to-day operations of Account Closure, AML Mitigating Controls, FATCA/CRS processes, and mailbox management. This role ensures timely processing of mitigating controls, email inquiries, adherence to regulatory and compliance requirements, achievement of service delivery standards, and effective workload management. The Deputy Team Lead provides guidance, coaching, and operational support to team members while driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, quality, and managing internal stakeholders.

Job Description

  • Support the Team Lead in overseeing day-to-day operations of Account Closure, AML Mitigating Controls, Mailbox management and FATCA/CRS matters.
  • Monitor workload distribution and ensure timely completion of assigned tasks within established service standards.
  • Act as the first point of escalation for operational issues, case backlogs, and process exceptions.
  • Review and validate case handling to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, internal policies, and procedures.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and on-the-job training to team members.
  • Support implementation of process enhancements and operational efficiency initiatives.
  • Prepare and analyze management information reports and operational metrics.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to facilitate smooth execution of operational processes.
  • Support QC checks, audit, compliance review, and regulatory examination exercises.
  • Perform any other responsibilities or projects assigned by management.

Key Responsibilities

Account Closure

  • Oversee end-to-end account closure cases arising from AML exits.
  • Monitor aged and overdue cases and drive timely resolution.
  • Liaise with relevant stakeholders to address operational issues and bottlenecks.
  • Ensure proper documentation and record retention in accordance with Bank standards.

AML Mitigating Controls

  • Monitor placement, maintenance, and reconciliation of AML mitigating controls.
  • Perform quality reviews to ensure controls are applied consistently and accurately.
  • Identify control gaps and propose remediation measures.
  • Support implementation of policy, process, and system enhancements.

FATCA / CRS

  • Ensure policies and procedures are updated
  • Provide training for the impacted business and operations teams.
  • Support the team during the Audits and regulatory liaisons.
  • May be required to be involved in User Acceptance Testing, when required.

Quality Assurance & Risk Management

  • Conduct periodic quality reviews and identify process improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with AML, regulatory, and internal policy requirements.
  • Support QC, QA, internal and external audit requests.
  • Escalate operational, compliance, and reputational risks promptly.

People Leadership

  • Provide day-to-day guidance and support to team members.
  • Assist in onboarding and training new staff.
  • Support performance monitoring, coaching, and development initiatives.
  • Act as Team Lead during absence periods and ensure continuity of operations.

Job Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Banking, Finance, Business, Accounting, Law, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of banking operations, AML & compliance experience.
  • Prior experience in a supervisory or deputy team lead capacity would be advantageous.
  • Sound understanding of AML/CFT requirements, FATCA, CRS, and banking operational controls.

Preferred Attributes

  • Knowledge of AML investigations and account closure processes.
  • Experience participating in audit reviews, regulatory examinations, or process improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to drive operational excellence and continuous improvement culture.
