Job Description

Oversees all aspects of the credit unions’ consumer lending function. Recommends changes to consumer lending policy and procedures; suggests new products and programs and ensures an exceptional member experience through all consumer lending channels Responsible for direct supervision of the Consumer Lending Manager and Indirect Lending Representative. Responsible for the sales, origination, and underwriting of consumer loans throughout the credit union.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

• Responsible for meeting credit union-wide assigned sales and service goals for consumer lending.

• Responsible for the growth and performance of the credit union’s consumer lending and credit card portfolios.

• Collaborates with Marketing for consumer lending and credit card promotions in order to increase credit card utilization, credit card interchange, and consumer loan growth. Analyzes current portfolio performance, industry and economic changes to project desired outcomes and present strategies to achieve those outcomes.

• Works closely with Indirect Lending Representative, Auto Dealers, Consumer Lending Manager, and AVP of Loan Servicing for approving, tracking, and processing indirect loans.

• Supervises underwriting, originations, and asset quality for each consumer loan portfolio, to achieve credit union growth and production goals.

• Researches, recommends, and implements changes on matters relating to consumer loan policy, procedures, product development, interest rates, member experience and promotional strategies. Proactive in presenting new lending strategies to Senior Management. Presents new strategies and updates to Executive Leadership, and the Board when assigned.

• Remains knowledgeable on all laws and regulations applicable to the origination of consumer loans. This includes researching and recommending changes to current processes to ensure compliance.

• Works closely with other leaders as the subject matter expert on consumer lending. This includes providing updates at Sr. Leader meetings, manager’s meetings, and conducting periodic branch visits.

• Trains and coaches credit union personnel in lending policy, procedure, methodology, philosophy and loan sales. Includes credit union-wide performance for consumer loan originations through the branch, call center, dealerships, and digital channels. Occasionally hosts and presents to members of the community on Consumer Lending.

• Recruits, hires, trains, and schedules staff to meet the consumer lending needs for the credit union.

• Prepares annual budget for related activities within areas of responsibility.

• Research industry and market trends to uncover opportunities to improve consumer lending operations. This includes emerging technology, peer credit union relationships, optimization of current vendor solutions, and preparing strategic recommendations for consumer lending to remain relevant both digitally and physically in the future.

• Responsible for the completion of monthly and quarterly reports for Sr. Management. Including assigned credit union and centralized lending performance ratios to improve underwriting, processing, and profitability.

• Approves consumer loans within assigned loan authority.

• Works closely with the AVP of Member Solutions to identify areas of opportunity to improve asset quality and maintain acceptable credit risk. Monitors credit union, automated underwriting, and individual loan officer ratios for acceptable credit risk levels. Provides updates and recommendations to Sr. Management as needed.

• Maintains oversight of the credit union’s consumer loan workout program and leads the credit union’s Loan Workout Committee.

• Demonstrates ability to effectively coach Core Sales Training skills and action steps to achieve sales goals. Completes monthly coaching for department staff on reaching assigned sales and service goals.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises the Consumer Lending Manager and Indirect Lending Representative. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these positions. Carries out management responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

• Ensures compliance of loan documentation to credit union policy and legal requirements.

• Assigned projects, reports, and employee performance reviews completed and submitted on time.

• Maintains acceptable performance ratios across all consumer lending portfolios.

• Meets loan growth and sales goals within specified ranges.

REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS:

Your position has specific procedures that must be followed to comply with Privacy Act, Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), and Bank Secrecy/Patriot Act. You will receive annual training to keep you current on any changes to these policies/procedures to assure compliance. Failure to comply with procedures may cause termination of your position as well as possible monetary penalties from the federal regulatory agency.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field from an accredited university preferred, plus a minimum of five (5) years experience of demonstrated successful progression within a comparable, senior level position, to include supervisory experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires the ability to lead and supervise others. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with others is essential.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to write correspondence. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to employees, members, vendors, and others involved in the service delivery function.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations as well as occasional situations where only limited standardization exists.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

• Complete working familiarity with the credit union's computer system, including input and output functions, general ledger account knowledge, assigning security codes, balancing daily work, and training personnel in the appropriate usage of the computer system in their assigned tasks.

• A working knowledge of credit union products and services, including, but not limited to: savings accounts, certificates of deposit, IRA programs, share draft programs, ATM services, audio telephone, Visa cash advance procedures, Bill payment, direct deposit, and payroll deduction.

• Knowledgeable about the credit union system, its structure, common language, and acronyms, philosophy, and the credit union's mission statement.

• Annually complete and achieve passing scores on various SAFE FCU Policy, Procedure, Development and Enhancement Curriculum.
