Job Description

We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a AVP - Fund Research

In this role you will:

  • Conduct investment due diligence (IDD) on funds and strategies across Greater China & ASEAN, forming independent, evidence-based views. Assess performance, portfolio construction, risk exposures, drawdowns, liquidity and peer positioning; evaluate robustness across market regimes and identify key drivers (macro, rates/credit, FX, policy and sector cycles).
  • Conduct organizational due diligence (ODD) on asset managers, assessing the operating platform and control environment, including Business Framework, Governance and People, DR, BCP and Cybersecurity, Trading, Operations and Cash and Control Environment. Complete periodic reviews and ongoing monitoring (e.g., key person changes, process drift, incidents and regulatory developments).
  • Produce high-quality research outputs including due diligence notes, monitoring updates and presentations, clearly articulating conclusions, key risks and recommended actions.
  • Maintain close oversight of market and product developments—e.g. ESG, tokenization and digital assets—and drive continuous improvement by translating market intelligence into clear implications for product shelf design, client suitability and governance requirements.
  • Collaborate effectively across HSBC and with external managers, building constructive relationships to obtain timely information, challenge appropriately, and support consistent outcomes across regions and channels.

To be successful you will need:

  • 3–5 years’ experience in the Funds / Asset Management industry (or closely related fund research/selection), with demonstrated delivery of rigorous analysis and sound judgement.
  • Strong understanding of financial markets, investment products and regional product structures/regimes across Greater China and ASEAN.
  • Strong analytical capability with excellent writing, communication and presentation skills; able to articulate independent opinions clearly and credibly.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the confidence to engage senior stakeholders and external partners.
  • Proactive, organized and resilient; able to multi-task, prioritize and deliver to time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; working knowledge of fund research tools such as Morningstar and Bloomberg.
  • Professional qualifications such as CFA/FRM are beneficial.
  • Language capability: Fluent English and Mandarin (written and spoken).
