We are seeking an experienced and versatile in-house counsel to join the RVI Group legal team This role offers an excellent opportunity to work on transactions and related regulatory issues, while also providing legal support to other business units across the organization in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills, along with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in an evolving setting. A broad understanding of the insurance industry is essential, as is the ability to work effectively across multiple teams.

This individual must be strategic, business-oriented, financially astute, and highly collaborative, demonstrating sound judgment and professionalism. The successful candidate will uphold the highest standards of integrity and ethical conduct in all aspects of their work.

Responsibilities:

Contract Drafting:

  • Draft, review, and advise on insurance policies, contracts, and other agreements.
  • Assist with renewals, amendments, and endorsements.
  • Partner effectively with internal teams, outside counsel and external stakeholders.

Regulatory and Compliance Support:

  • Advise on regulatory requirements in the U.S., Bermuda and elsewhere.
  • Monitor developments in law and ensure compliance with applicable statutes and regulations.

Transactional Support:

  • Collaborate with business units on structuring and implementing transactions including fronting arrangements, strategic managing general agent partnerships, and agreements.

Claims and Dispute Resolution:

  • Assist in managing claims and disputes, including arbitration and litigation support.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with business units and the finance team to provide practical legal advice.
  • Support corporate initiatives and special projects as assigned.
  • Able to pivot and take on new responsibilities in other business units as needed.
  • Partner with business units, such as the P&C, Reinsurance, Commercial Equipment and Passenger Vehicle teams, to ensure timely and efficient execution of a broad range of corporate and insurance legal tasks.
  • Undertake special projects dependent upon knowledge and experience.
  • Apply consistent legal terms and protections companywide.

Requirements:

  • Law degree from a nationally accredited law school.
  • 8-10 years of legal experience with a corporate legal department or a nationally recognized law firm.
  • Prior property and casualty industry work experiences relevant to ensure success as an integral team member of a nimble in-house legal department.

This position is remote but requires periodic in-office work in the Stamford, CT, office. The ideal person lives in the Northeast for ease of travel.

Compensation: 

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $200,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $230,000/year plus bonus in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
