The Associate Vice President, Automation Engineering will lead an organization focused on driving productivity and efficiency through strategic utilization of modern technology including AI, automation, and software platforms in a rapidly evolving technology landscape. This role oversees automation across the enterprise through three primary areas of accountability: product ownership of enterprise automation platforms, governance and standards for automation, and measurement and reporting of adoption, efficacy, and efficiencies generated by solutions produced by this organization. By aligning and distributing teams and roles under a unified structure, the AVP will accelerate adoption of standardized engineering practices and deployment of automation solutions, in partnership with other technology teams under the CTO organization.
The AVP of Automation Engineering is accountable for the design, build, and governance of Humana's hybrid cloud onboarding platform — an intelligent, AI-guided experience that automates the delivery of workloads across cloud and on-premises data centers. This leader will embed AI into the platform to enable a guided onboarding experience, continuously capture feedback, and drive an iterative improvement cycle that ensures the platform evolves with the needs of the business. This leadership position is essential to realize Humana's organizational realignment and growth targets, unlocking advanced capabilities and efficiency for engineers enterprise-wide.
The AVP, Automation Engineering is a critical leadership position overseeing a dynamic engineering organization charged with leading, building, and delivering on Humana's hybrid cloud and infrastructure strategy in response to rapid technology changes, accelerated demand for resources, and the need to provide a seamless internal customer experience. This AVP will be responsible for aligning work streams, enabling efficiencies, and accelerating business objectives by providing AI-powered automation solutions and platforms. By simplifying the customer experience of requesting and provisioning infrastructure, this leader will reduce operational costs and empower technology teams to deliver faster and more innovative solutions. The position is essential for unlocking productivity gains through practical AI application, organizational change management, and the establishment of new ways of working across Humana's technology enterprise.
The AVP will operate under a product operating model, organizing engineering and operations capabilities into value-stream-aligned product teams with dedicated product ownership, integrated delivery squads, and clear outcome accountability from inception through production operations. This leader will maintain disciplined financial management, invest in automation platform capabilities with measurable ROI, and govern the full automation portfolio to ensure alignment with enterprise priorities and CTO organization strategy.
Critically, this leader will build an AI-native function — one where AI is embedded into the platform engineering and operational workflows themselves, not simply offered as a feature. AI-guided onboarding, intelligent feedback loops, predictive provisioning recommendations, and continuous improvement cycles driven by usage data and outcomes are core to how this organization delivers value. This leader will foster a culture of innovation, engineering rigor, and continuous improvement, developing the next generation of automation engineers and leaders to deliver high-quality, scalable solutions at enterprise scale.
