Job Description

Kimley-Horn's San Jose office is seeking an Aviation Planner with 2+ years of experience to join their Aviation team! This position is in-person/in-office.

Responsibilities

You will have the opportunity to assist with the development of airport master plans, statewide system plans, on-call aviation planning services, and support and collaborate with multiple project managers and team members in general planning tasks.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Contribute to the production and delivery of multi-modal transportation systems planning, including data collection, analysis, and technical reporting at airports.
  • Support all steps of an aviation planning project, including:
    • Initial data gathering and needs identification
    • Goal setting, visioning exercises, and stakeholder input documentation
    • Supporting the development of aviation activity forecasts (operations, based aircraft, passenger, and fleet mix) under the direction of senior staff
    • Supporting project prioritization, capital improvement planning, and preparation of high-level cost estimates
    • Development of recommended strategies and design concepts
    • Preparing figures, tables, exhibits, and draft content for technical reports, planning documents, and public-facing presentations
  • Assist with grant administration tasks, including data compilation and preparation of supporting documentation for state and federal funding programs.
  • Support Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) and emerging aviation planning efforts, including research on policy, infrastructure needs, operational concepts, and integration considerations at airports and surrounding communities.
  • Provide support for environmental planning and compliance efforts, including assistance with documentation and technical analyses prepared under NEPA and CEQA, coordination with environmental specialists, and tracking of regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with airspace review and obstruction evaluation tasks, including preparation and tracking of FAA Form 7460 submissions, review of airspace surfaces, and coordination with FAA and project stakeholders under the supervision of senior staff.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in a related field
  • Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in a relevant field such as urban planning, transportation planning, or similar
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to write and communicate findings clearly
  • Demonstrated experience in oral presentations and public speaking
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Working knowledge of ESRI ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, and/or StoryMap
  • Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlines
  • High attention to detail
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Detail-oriented team player with an ability to contribute to a positive work environment
  • Ability to work independently and as a team

Salary Range:

$100,000 to $125,000
