Job Description

To help each participating student athlete attain a high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self esteem.

Job Summary:

1. Coaches individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievment in teh sport involved.
2. Work with the Head and Assistant coaches in planning and scheduling a regular program of practice in season.
3. Works closely with Head and Assistant coaches in scheduling interscholastic contests.
4. Assists with recommendations on purchases of equipment, supplies, and uniforms, as apropriate.
5. Supervises the safety amd well-being of the student athlete.
6. Maintains or provides necessary information for attendance forms, insurance records, and similar paperwork.
7. Oversees the safety conditions of the facilty or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times that students are present.
8. Establishes adn maintains performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition in his/her sport.
9. Coordinates and documents that the student athlete is physically fit to participate (medical doctor examination).
10. Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times and establishes and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.

Qualifications:

1. Valid West Virginia teaching certificate appropriate for assignments.
2. Non-professional coaches/sponsors must have successfully completed the National Federation Interscholastic Coaches Edducatoin Program in Coaching Principals Course and the National Federation Interscholastic Coaches Education Program in Sports First Aid Course. Must have a high school diploma or GED.
3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
