Automotive Technician A Level / Diagnostic Tech – $74K - $115K+

Location: St. James, NY
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Pay Structure: Hybrid Guarantee + Flat Rate + Performance Bonuses
Earning Potential: $115K+ Annually
Pay Range: $35.00 – $55.00 Flat Rate Depending on Experience & Certifications
Pay Schedule: Weekly

Promotive is hiring an experienced Automotive Technician (A Level / Diagnostic Technician or strong B+ Technician) for a highly respected independent repair shop in St. James, NY.

This is a full-time opportunity for a technician who takes pride in diagnostics, quality repairs, and doing the job right the first time. Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair domestic, Asian, and European vehicles accurately and efficiently
• Perform advanced drivability, electrical, engine, brake, suspension, and steering diagnostics
• Complete repairs using advanced scan tools including Snap-On, Autel, and TOPDON systems
• Perform Digital Vehicle Inspections (DVI) using AutoVitals
• Maintain high-quality workmanship with strong first-time fix accuracy
• Collaborate with service advisors and fellow technicians to ensure smooth workflow
• Maintain productivity standards while minimizing comebacks
• Keep work areas clean, organized, and safe

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as an Automotive Technician for A Level candidates
• 3+ years of experience for strong B+ Level Technicians with diagnostic ability
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills with a “no guesswork” mentality
• Experience with domestic, Asian, and European vehicles preferred
• Ability to work independently and manage workflow efficiently
• ASE Certifications preferred but not required
• Experience performing Digital Vehicle Inspections
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

This shop offers a hybrid compensation model with guaranteed weekly pay plus flat-rate production incentives and bonus opportunities.

Flat Rate Pay Examples (Depending on Experience & Certifications)

• Full Master Technician: Up to $55.00 Flat Rate
• 3 ASE Certifications: Approximately $50.00 Flat Rate
• 2 ASE Certifications: Approximately $42.00 Flat Rate
• No ASE Certifications: Approximately $35.00–$40.00 Flat Rate
