Reporting to the Commander of Fleet Operations and under the direction of the Automotive Mechanic 3, and within the regulations as set out by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, the Automotive Mechanic 3 Apprentice will:

  • Perform mandatory inspections of City of Toronto vehicles.
  • Utilizes a variety of hand and power tools and equipment supplied by the City of Toronto.
  • Performs calibrations on ambulances.
  • Reports deficiencies and makes recommendations.
  • Works under the direction of a Licensed Technician and/or Supervisor.
  • Operates vehicles to move in and out of garage and do road tests.
  • Must be familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the regulations that apply to this work.
  • Responsible to keep shop area and tools clean.
  • Performs other related work as assigned.

Key Qualifications:

Your application must describe your qualifications as follows:

  1. Be registered with Skilled Trades Ontario for in-school learning for an Automotive Service Technician program (310S).
  2. Possess and maintain a valid Province of Ontario Class "G" License and must qualify for the City's equipment operating permits and requirements.

You Must Also Have:

  • The ability to register with Skilled Trades Ontario within 60 days of employment for on-the-job work experience.
  • Provide a copy of the 310S Truck and Coach Technician Logbook once registered as an apprentice with Skilled Trades Ontario.
  • Must be physically capable of performing the required duties.
  • Must be able to work shift/weekend/overtime/on call duty.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work in a computerized environment.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
