As a key member of the Paint Shop team, this position is responsible for executing high-quality painting processes on large-scale transit vehicle components in a fast-paced production environment. This includes spraying, mixing, polishing, and maintaining painting equipment while ensuring precision and efficiency across a variety of metal and composite surfaces.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Perform high-volume production painting on large transit bus components, ensuring a smooth and durable finish that meets quality standards.
  • Review and interpret detailed blueprints and work instructions to confirm correct paint colors, application areas, and sequence of operations.
  • Prepare and paint a variety of metal surfaces, including metal-on-metal, metal-on-weld, and metal-on-plastic applications, adjusting techniques based on material properties.
  • Complete minor fiberglass repairs and surface preparation to ensure seamless paint application.
  • Mix Axalta paint systems, including activators and primers, while adhering to manufacturer specifications to achieve optimal adhesion and durability.
  • Apply paint using 1-quart gravity feed spray guns and 2-quart siphon feed spray guns, adjusting techniques to cover large surface areas efficiently.
  • Maintain and clean spray guns, nozzles, and other painting equipment to ensure consistent application quality.
  • Utilize advanced painting techniques, including feathering, blending, and masking, to achieve precise finishes.
  • Work efficiently within a high-paced production environment, balancing quality, speed, and consistency to meet production targets.
  • Follow strict safety procedures when handling paints, solvents, and pressurized equipment.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

  • Previous experience in high-volume automotive, heavy-duty transportation, or aviation painting is strongly preferred.
  • Certification in Automotive Refinishing or a related trade is considered a strong asset.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints to determine paint application areas, color matching, and sequencing.
  • In-depth knowledge of paint preparation, priming sequences, and finishing procedures for various materials, including aluminum, steel, fiberglass, and plastic.
  • Hands-on experience working with Axalta paints or similar high-performance coatings is considered an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify imperfections, inconsistencies, and proper adhesion.
  • Ability to work efficiently under production deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination, precision, and technique in spray painting applications.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong communication and collaboration skills.
