Automotive Detailer — Sales Department

Reports To: General Sales Manager / Used Car Manager / Sales Manager

Position Summary

The Automotive Detailer is a member of the Sales Department and is responsible for preparing dealership vehicles for sale, display, online presentation, and customer delivery.

The Detailer plays an important role in the dealership's sales process by ensuring that every vehicle presented to a customer is clean, attractive, and professionally prepared. The position requires strong attention to detail, efficient time management, dependability, and pride in the appearance of the dealership's inventory.

Essential Responsibilities

• Thoroughly clean and detail new and used vehicles for sale and customer delivery.
• Prepare vehicles for the sales lot and showroom.
• Wash, dry, vacuum, and clean vehicles according to dealership standards.
• Clean and condition interior surfaces, including carpets, upholstery, seats, dashboards, consoles, doors, and windows.
• Clean and dress exterior surfaces, wheels, tires, trim, and other areas of the vehicle.
• Perform waxing, buffing, polishing, and other appearance-related services as assigned.
• Remove stains, odors, dirt, grease, and other contaminants.
• Ensure vehicles are properly presented for online photographs and advertising.
• Complete final clean-up of vehicles prior to customer delivery.
• Inspect each completed vehicle to ensure it meets dealership standards.
• Bring any damage, mechanical concerns, missing equipment, or other issues to the attention of management.
• Move vehicles safely around the dealership property and position them appropriately for display.
• Maintain an organized and professional detailing area.
• Properly maintain and care for all detailing equipment, tools, and supplies.
• Monitor cleaning supplies and notify management when additional supplies are needed.
• Follow all dealership safety procedures and chemical-handling guidelines.
• Assist with lot organization and other sales-department vehicle preparation duties as directed.
• Complete assigned vehicles in a timely manner while maintaining dealership quality standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the General Sales Manager, Used Car Manager, or Sales Manager.

Sales Department Responsibilities

Because this position is part of the Sales Department, the Detailer is expected to understand that vehicle presentation directly impacts the customer's experience and the dealership's ability to sell inventory.

The Detailer is expected to:

• Prioritize vehicles based on management's sales and inventory needs.
• Give priority to sold vehicles requiring final preparation.
• Help ensure newly acquired inventory is prepared for the sales floor as quickly as reasonably possible.
• Maintain the appearance of vehicles while they remain in inventory.
• Take ownership of the condition and presentation of vehicles assigned to them.
• Communicate with management regarding vehicles that are not ready for sale or delivery.
• Work cooperatively with Sales Consultants and management to meet customer delivery expectations.

Performance Standards

The Detailer will be measured on:

Quality

• Vehicles meet dealership detailing standards.
• No obvious dirt, debris, stains, fingerprints, or missed areas remain after completion.
• Vehicles are properly inspected before being considered complete.

Productivity

• Assigned vehicles are completed within reasonable time expectations.
• Work is prioritized according to management direction and sales needs.
• The Detailer maintains productive use of working time.

Dependability

• Consistent attendance and punctuality.
• Reliable completion of assigned responsibilities.
• Willingness to assist the sales team when additional vehicle preparation is required.

Communication

• Communicates vehicle issues to management promptly.
• Advises management when a vehicle is completed.
• Communicates any delays or supply/equipment issues that could affect productivity.

Professionalism

• Maintains a clean and organized work area.
• Properly cares for dealership vehicles and equipment.
• Represents the dealership professionally.
• Demonstrates a positive, team-oriented attitude.

Qualifications

• Previous automotive detailing experience preferred but not required.
• Dealership experience is a plus.
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
• Ability to safely operate dealership vehicles.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Dependable and punctual.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, and work around vehicles for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and move detailing equipment and supplies.
