Automotive Cashier / Customer Service Representative
Location: St. James, NY
Schedule: Full-Time | 50 Hours Per Week
Shift: 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Base Compensation: $850.00 – $1,000+ per week based on experience and responsibilities
Promotive is hiring a friendly, organized, and customer-focused Automotive Cashier / Customer Service Representative for a busy independent repair shop in St. James, NY This is a full-time opportunity for someone who enjoys helping customers, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and understands that great service is just as important as great repairs.
You’ll play a key role at the front counter by assisting customers, processing payments, scheduling appointments, and supporting the service team. If you can multitask, stay calm under pressure, and keep a positive attitude during busy days, this could be the perfect fit.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet customers professionally when they arrive and depart
- Process customer payments including cash, credit cards, checks, and financing options
- Close repair orders and verify invoices for accuracy
- Answer incoming calls, route calls appropriately, and take detailed messages
- Schedule and confirm customer appointments
- Support service advisors and management with front desk and administrative tasks
- Maintain accurate records, filing, scanning, and light office organization
- Assist with warranty paperwork and customer documentation
- Balance daily cash receipts and maintain organized payment records
- Follow up with customers regarding their service experience and satisfaction
- Send customer surveys and assist with CSI/NPS initiatives
- Communicate professionally regarding vehicle pickup and payment procedures
- Help maintain a clean, welcoming, and professional customer waiting area
- Jump in and support the team during busy periods — because vehicle breakdowns rarely happen at convenient times
Qualifications
- Previous cashier, receptionist, or customer service experience preferred
- Automotive industry experience is a plus, but not required
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Comfortable using computers, POS systems, and scheduling software
- Experience with automotive shop management software is a plus
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Professional appearance and positive attitude
- Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented
- Strong phone etiquette and customer service skills
- Ability to handle customer concerns professionally and calmly
- A sense of humor helps when customers explain noises using hand gestures and sound effects
