Job Description

Why Join Ford of Mexico?

Celebrating over 100 years of legacy in Mexico, we are more than just a business—we are a vibrant, collaborative community of over 14,000 innovators shaping the global future of transportation. At Ford, we build what matters, grow where it counts, and drive progress with heart. Whether you are collaborating at our state-of-the-art Global Technology and Business Center (GTBC) or manufacturing iconic, award-winning vehicles in our world-class plants, you will find a culture evolving together, built on trust, passion, and shared purpose. Here, your work moves people forward, and your growth is personal. Join us, and let’s build what’s next together.

In this position.

As part of our Body Engineering team, you will drive the future of vehicle architecture by designing, developing, and launching innovative underbody structural systems. In this role, you will lead lightweight material strategies and cross-functional engineering execution from initial concept through vehicle launch, ensuring our vehicles exceed global safety, performance, and durability standards while delivering exceptional value to customers.

What you'll do...

  • Lead end-to-end engineering design, 3D CAD modeling, and component release for underbody structural assemblies from concept through production launch.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams (Safety, NVH, Crash/CAE simulation, and Adjacent Subsystems) to optimize structural performance, safety compliance, and vehicle packaging.
  • Partner with Procurement, Finance, and Supplier Quality teams to evaluate suppliers, kick off production tooling, and achieve cost and mass targets.
  • Develop and execute Design Verification Plans (DVP&R), Design Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (DFMEA), and root-cause problem-solving methodologies (8D, Fishbone, DOE).
  • Oversee prototype vehicle build events, physical testing validation, and plant-level engineering sign-offs during pre-production and launch phases.
  • Implement Design for Manufacturing (DFM) best practices across diverse processes, including stampings, extrusions, roll forming, and structural castings.

You'll have...

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Materials Science, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Typically 3 to 5+ years of engineering experience in structural design, body engineering, or component development within the automotive or mobility industry.
  • Working knowledge of 3D CAD modeling tools (such as CATIA V5/V6 or 3DEXPERIENCE) and ability to interpret structural CAE simulation results.
  • Solid understanding of vehicle safety standards (e.g., FMVSS), structural joint design (fasteners/welds), and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills to collaborate effectively across global engineering teams.

Even better, you may have...

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience leading Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) or Failure Mode Avoidance (FMA) projects.
  • Hands-on experience with advanced lightweight materials (high-strength steels, aluminum alloys, or composites).
  • Proven track record supporting vehicle assembly plant launch and pre-production build operations.
