Volkswagen Group Services is a Volkswagen Group company oriented towards working for Group companies worldwide.
We provide services in the areas of production, logistics, data engineering (IT), engineering, consulting, quality, business services, human resources, communication, and administrative and financial services. We are focused on our clients’ activities and take responsibility for carrying them out on their behalf.
We are currently hiring an Automation Test Engineer to join our I&E HUB in Lisbon.
At the Innovation & Engineering Hub, we develop bold, market-ready solutions that support Volkswagen Group and its leading brands. Together with TRATON Group’s Global R&D — home to brands like Scania, MAN, International, and Volkswagen Truck & Bus — we’re building the future of intelligent and sustainable transport. Global R&D focuses on:
• Alternative Drive Systems
• Digitalization
• Automated Driving
• Road Safety We’re not just manufacturing vehicles — we’re engineering the future of mobility.
In the R2D2 (Real-Time Remote Data Delivery) team, we build and evolve a connected vehicle data product that enables Data Scientists, Data Engineers, and Digital Services teams to access vehicle data in a scalable and efficient way.
Operating across embedded and cloud domains, we design end-to-end solutions that allow stakeholders to request and receive relevant vehicle data through secure and reliable mechanisms. By simplifying and standardizing data access, we accelerate innovation across digital products and analytics initiatives. Vehicle data plays a critical role in improving performance, reliability, safety, and sustainability. The insights generated support better engineering decisions, smarter logistics planning, optimized fleet usage, and deeper understanding of vehicle health and driver behavior.
We work in an agile environment with a strong product-oriented mindset, taking ownership from idea to operation and ensuring what we build is robust, scalable, and trusted.
• Adopt and apply the TRATON TEESA test strategy within the product team, and drive end to-end test strategy and quality assurance for complex services in an international product organization, ensuring high reliability, scalability, and customer satisfaction.
• Lead proactive quality improvement by ensuring software quality before release and implementing automated health monitoring of the rolling fleet to detect and address deviations before they impact customers.
• Design, implement, and continuously improve robust automated (and manual) end-to-end test frameworks for distributed automotive IoT systems. E.g. develop testing tools in Python and C++ for software and HIL testing, empower module testing and "black box" integration testing. • Identify systemic quality risks early, drive root-cause analysis, and lead the resolution of complex, cross-team technical challenges and roadblocks.
• Lead validation activities for products, prototypes, and MVPs in the near-vehicle services domain, ensuring readiness for production and alignment with business goals.
• Contribute to architectural and technical discussions to ensure testability, observability, and quality are built into systems from the ground up.
• Act as a subject-matter expert for testing in an automotive IoT environment, proactively advising and mentoring team members and collaborating with other teams to evolve best practices, tooling, and processes.
• Champion continuous improvement by evaluating new technologies, introducing innovative testing approaches, and applying pragmatic solutions that balance quality, speed, and cost.
• Bachelor's degree in related field or comparable job expertise.
• Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience.
• Strong proficiency with scripting and/or programming languages for test automation, test frameworks, and custom tooling.
• Proven track record in defining, implementing, and scaling automated (and manual) test strategies in international and cross-functional teams.
• Solid working knowledge of Linux-based systems and their use in automated testing and CI/CD environments.
• Experience designing and integrating cloud-based testing solutions, preferably using AWS, including monitoring, alerting, and observability practices.
• Proficiency in Python for test automation, rapid prototyping, and internal tooling development is highly desirable.
• Proficiency in gTest (for embedded / C++) and JUnit (for Backend/Java/Kotlin) is highly desirable.
• Agile and DevOps mindset.
• Very good English skills, both written and spoken.
• Competitive compensation package.
• Flexible work hours and a hybrid model.
• Attractive workspace.
• Employee health care and life insurance.
• Social benefits and several discounts.
• Training and professional career development.
