Automation Technician

Corporate Job Title: Automation Technician - Lead

Reporting Relationships

This position reports directly to the Automation Operations Manager

  • Responsibilities
    • Perform advanced troubleshooting and diagnosis of rod lift pump-off controllers, variable speed drives, and related automation systems.
    • Lead complex on-site installations of automation equipment, including controllers, VSDs, conduit, and communication hardware.
    • Conduct high-level well optimization assessments and collaborate with engineering or product line specialists on complex issues.
    • Serve as the primary field escalation point for difficult or unresolved technical problems.
    • Handling field troubleshooting calls, acting as the on-the-ground technical support resource when needed.
    • Use various electronic equipment and tools including auto cranes, stud guns, etc.
    • Mentor, coach, and develop Automation Technicians, including ride-along training, skill assessments, and performance feedback.
    • Lead internal training sessions to upskill LUFKIN field personnel on automation systems, safety practices, and troubleshooting techniques.
    • Assist in onboarding new technicians and ensuring consistent application of LUFKIN procedures and standards.
    • Maintain accurate documentation, service reports, and customer communication logs
    • Other duties as assigned

  • Requirements
    • Education and Training: High School education or equivalent or as deemed sufficient by management
    • Technical Requirements: Licensed Electrician (Journeyman or Masters Electrical License), troubleshooting skills, basic computer skills such as experience with MS Office Suite, oilfield experience, experience working with variable speed drives, automation and instrument experience, able to manage inventory.
    • Experience: At least 3 years’ electrical experience, or as deemed sufficient by management
