General Summary

Under the direction of the Lead Technicians and Maintenance Supervisor, the Automated Maintenance Technician – 2nd Shift is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing manufacturing and packaging equipment to maximize operational uptime. This role supports multiple departments, assists with equipment installations and process improvements, and ensures all work is completed in compliance with cGMP standards and company procedures.

Essential Duties

• Follow all Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), company policies, and safety procedures.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex equipment and system issues using a structured root-cause approach.
• Repair or fabricate components as needed to support equipment functionality.
• Perform intermediate-level programming and troubleshooting of VFDs, PLCs, and related control systems.
• Assist with equipment setup, operation, and optimization.
• Identify operational inefficiencies and recommend process improvements.
• Maintain appropriate inventory levels of critical spare parts.
• Assist with sourcing and obtaining parts and repair quotes.
• Support the installation, modification, and enhancement of manufacturing equipment.
• Collaborate with engineering on projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Coordinate with outside vendors and contractors as needed.
• Maintain and repair HVAC systems and supporting utilities.
• Assist with preventive maintenance, calibrations, and equipment certifications.
• Provide technical guidance and support to Maintenance Technicians during advanced troubleshooting situations.
• Develop troubleshooting procedures and equipment rebuild documentation.
• Participate in meetings and provide operational support as directed.

Requirements

• Vocational degree in automated machinery systems

OR

• Associate degree or equivalent two-year technical education focused on electronics, mechanics, or industrial technology with 0–3 years of related experience

OR

• High school diploma (or equivalent) with 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment (pharmaceutical, biotech, food manufacturing, or electronics preferred)

Technical Qualifications

Experience with:

• Electrical controls and industrial electronics
• PLC programming and troubleshooting
• Pneumatics and fluid power systems
• Servo drives, stepper motors, encoders, and resolvers
• VFDs and control loops
• Thermocouples and industrial safety systems
• Fabrication and mechanical repair

Additional Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
• Working knowledge of computer operating systems, file management, batch files, and SAP preferred
• Commitment to workplace safety and proper PPE compliance
• Ability to maintain a clean and organized work environment

Certifications / Licenses

• Special Engineer Boiler License preferred, or willingness to obtain within the first 6 months of employment
