Job Description

Do you want to work on developing new products in a highly specialized R&D environment where automation, innovation, and technical quality go hand in hand?

Take this opportunity to work on advanced development projects and high-level automation solutions. You will become part of an environment focused on strategic development, working according to a well-defined stage-gate development model – always ensuring strong team spirit, high professionalism, and mutual respect.

Based in Søborg, you will join Mechanical and Digital R&D, a team of 11 colleagues including project managers, R&D specialists, and a technical designer, all collaborating on developing new products for the division.

Together, we operate at a very high technical level, and our culture is characterized by strong collaboration and a willingness to support each other. This is essential, as expectations are high, requiring focus on professionalism, quality, and technical excellence in all aspects of development work.

Responsibilities / Tasks

As an Automation Engineer in R&D, you will play a central role in developing automation solutions for new products. You will work with both software and hardware, as well as prototype development, in an iterative development process.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Programming PLC-based systems – primarily in Siemens TIA Portal
  • Implementing communication protocols such as PROFINET, OPC UA, etc., to connect in-house MCU-based solutions with main PLC systems at plant level
  • Building prototype systems, including wiring, component selection, and choosing enclosures and panels
  • Preparing technical documentation
  • Troubleshooting, optimizing, and documenting both software and hardware solutions in an iterative development process

Your Profile / Qualifications

We are looking for someone who can work independently with technical responsibility for automation solutions. You use strong analytical skills to evaluate multiple solution options based on performance, robustness, cost, and development risk.

Additionally, we imagine that you:

  • Have at least 3–5 years of practical experience as an automation or PLC engineer and can structure maintainable and well-documented PLC software
  • Have solid experience with Siemens TIA Portal
  • Have experience with industrial communication protocols such as PROFINET and OPC UA
  • Have hands-on experience with system debugging and fault analysis in prototypes
  • Preferably have experience working in an R&D or development department
  • Have practical experience with prototype building, including layout and wiring of electrical panels and control cabinets, selection of components such as PLCs, I/O, sensors, actuators, and safety components, as well as assembly, testing, and rework of electrical prototype systems
